ASSISTANT CONTROLLER
Reports To: VP, Business Affairs
Works Closely With: CEO and External/Consulting Controller
Location: Huntsville, AL
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
LSINC is seeking an experienced, hands-on Assistant Controller to manage the company's day-to-day accounting operations and ensure leadership has accurate, timely, and dependable financial information.
This person will work closely with leadership and our external/consulting Controller. They will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial data, completing reconciliations and close activities, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring the information provided to leadership and the Controller is accurate and complete.
A significant near-term priority will be supporting the successful implementation and stabilization of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities and maintain an accurate general ledger.
- Own the internal month-end close process and account reconciliations.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash-management activities.
- Prepare financial statements, schedules, and supporting information for leadership and the Controller.
- Maintain budget-to-actual reporting and assist with forecasting and cash-flow projections.
- Identify and investigate financial discrepancies and unusual variances.
- Maintain accurate inventory and cost-accounting records.
- Support product costing, including materials, labor, and overhead.
- Work with Manufacturing, Procurement, Inventory, and Operations to resolve financial and inventory discrepancies.
- Support analysis of product and project profitability.
- Serve as a primary finance user of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
- Work with our implementation partner, CPA, and internal teams to resolve ERP and accounting issues.
- Establish and document practical, repeatable financial processes.
- Prepare information needed for year-end activities, taxes, audits, and other outside financial requirements.
- Identify financial issues early and take ownership of getting them resolved.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statements.
- Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Manufacturing, inventory, and/or cost-accounting experience strongly preferred.
- ERP experience required; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience a plus.
- Strong Excel skills.
