Job description

Job Summary
Perform maintenance, inspection, repairs, diagnostics on vehicle fleet assets which include electrical, mechanical, pneumatic systems, gas and diesel engines, mobile hydraulic systems utilized on aerial devices, digger derricks, medium/heavy duty trucks, light duty vehicles, forklifts and off-road equipment.
This position will support all Entergy equipment and vehicles. Primary responsibilities include the inspection, maintenance and repair of the electrical; mechanical; pneumatic systems; gas and diesel engines; mobile hydraulic systems utilized on aerial devices. Position will support the following types of equipment: medium and heavy duty bucket trucks, digger derricks, and occasional off-road equipment such as dozers, skidders and marsh buggies. Some light duty vehicle work.
Communicate and cooperate in a professional manner with peers, supervision and internal customers to maintain a safe and productive environment and high level of support to fleet users. Operate a field service vehicle and travel to various job site locations to perform work. Prepare records on all maintenance activities.
Must be willing to work extended hours and at times maybe subject to an alternate reporting location and storm travel outside of Entergy's territory.
Work in a shop location as needed, performing work and maintaining an orderly and environmentally safe work site. Safely operate a field service vehicle and travel to various job sites to perform assigned work.
Prepare required records for all maintenance activities.
Direct work of assistants, instruct and train other employees. Perform non-critical welding.
Comply with all DOT, DOE, OSHA regulations and directives.
Job Duties
  • Perform basic mechanical tasks using mechanic hand tools
  • Competently operate required computer-based applications pertaining to daily tasks. Ex- Microsoft Outlook; Service Suite; Web Time Entry; Maximo; etc.
  • After proper training, provide routine maintenance (filter changes; greasing; cleaning) and inspection of all Entergy leased, owned, and rented equipment. (Inspection and Service only)
  • Federal Department of Transportation inspections
  • Perform other miscellaneous utility work in and around garage such as housekeeping, sweeping, etc.
  • Dismantle vehicles and equipment in preparation for repairs
  • Complete work orders with proper coding and information to satisfy Department of Transportation and Entergy record requirements. Cause and Correction; mileage; hours and other detail appropriately recorded on all maintenance and corrective activities
  • Assist with any task under supervision of a qualified automotive Mechanic; qualified supervisor; qualified manufacturer or vendor representative
  • Operate forklift, overhead crane, or other equipment necessary for loading or unloading during Fleet related operations
  • Accurately order parts for any job and ensure used parts or miss-ordered parts are returned appropriately
  • Must have ability to operate vehicles/equipment in sufficient manner as to verify proper diagnosis and repair
  • Must complete Hazard Assessment prior to performing any work and as the job changes.
  • Must attend and contribute to monthly and weekly safety calls.
  • Must complete all safety mandated training / computer-based training
  • Must follow all Entergy Safety rules and able to work injury and accident free.
  • Must complete time reporting daily.
  • Must perform all work tasks and customer interface with professionalism.
  • Must maintain a clean work area free from clutter and tripping hazards.
  • Must complete and document monthly shop and vehicle audits.
  • Must communicate with Fleet Supervisor, OC, and local Line Supervisors.
  • Must comply with all Environmental, Safety, State and Federal regulations.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and at times maybe subject to an alternate reporting location and storm travel outside of Entergy's territory.

Qualifications:
  • Must have worked at least 1 year in automotive industry or have automotive or related certificate or degree from accredited institution
  • Supply personal hand tools used in work up to 1" An ½" drive. (see tool list) All specialty tools will be provided
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision.
  • Must be a team player willing to work with other mechanics and employees
  • Within 90 days after employment obtain and maintain a DOT med card. Once over 21 years of age obtain and maintain a Class A CDL license within 365 days of 21st birthday or hire date. (Dependent on training and scheduling availability)
  • Within 90 days after employment obtain air brake inspector certification (Dependent upon training and scheduling availability)
  • Within 90 days after employment know Company's safety rules related to the Automotive Hydraulic Mechanic and be willing and able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation, and be willing and able to render practical first aid
  • Within 30 days after employment know the location of and be willing to operate all life saving devices such as AED and firefighting equipment and know what kind of equipment to use on appropriate fires
  • Must be willing and able to complete all industry certifications and manufacturer training that applies to role and responsibility of position as identified by Entergy. (Fluid Power Certification not required for Apprentice 1, however is required prior to attempting Skills Assessment to qualify for App 2 position.)

Qualifications (Transportation Mechanic I-II):
  • Must be able to pass Fluid Power Test within 1 year
  • 3-5 years' hands-on experience maintaining hydraulic, mechanical, electrical systems on mobile hydraulic and medium heavy-duty trucks. Vocational training accepted.
  • Must have a class A Commercial Driver's License and medical certification or be able to obtain within 6 months.
  • Must have the experience or certification in welding and fabrication. Ability to use physical strength to perform required tasks in all weather conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software.
  • Experience with engine diagnostic software.
  • Ability to interpret electrical and hydraulic schematic drawings.
  • Completion of the necessary training modules as set forth by the Safety and Training department. Self-motivated and dependable team player
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to work irregular hours and out of town assignments as required.
  • Ability to take and understand directives and complete tasks with limited supervision.
  • Ability to plan and lay out all work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards.
  • Ability to maintain and care for Company equipment properly and safeguard assets.
  • Ability to meet the public in a pleasant and tactful manner and understand the importance of delivering a high level of customer service.
