Job description

Powers Catholic High School, Flint, Michigan is accepting resumes for a full-time English Teacher position.
Position Summary:
Powers Catholic High School is seeking an enthusiastic, faith-filled, qualified educator with subject matter expertise and high-impact instructional skills to fill one (1) English teaching position for the 2026-2027 academic year. An additional secondary endorsement is preferred. This role offers the opportunity to inspire students through literature, writing, and critical thinking while upholding the Catholic mission of the school.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Instructional Excellence: Plan and deliver engaging, evidence-based lessons in English Language Arts that align with diocesan and school curriculum standards.
  • Student Engagement: Foster a classroom environment that promotes inquiry, creativity, and respect.
  • Assessment & Feedback: Evaluate student progress using effective assessment tools and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Gospel Values: Model Christ-centered values and participate in parish and school life.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain an orderly, disciplined, and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaboration: Work cooperatively with colleagues, administration, and families to support student success.
  • Professional Conduct: Uphold school policies, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of the role.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned by administration.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Hold a valid State of Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with English (BA/BX) endorsement
  • Preferably hold an additional secondary subject endorsement
  • Exhibit subject matter expertise and demonstrate effective pedagogical practices
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Relate positively with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Collaborate effectively with other professionals
  • Demonstrate an understanding of adolescent cognitive, social, and emotional development
  • Plan and deliver high-quality, evidence-based instruction through a Catholic lens
  • Maintain a structured and respectful classroom environment
  • Be willing to fulfill additional duties as assigned
