Job description

Description

The Blake School seeks a creative, reflective ninth through twelfth grade English teacher who is eager to help students read and write with rigor, insight and imagination.

Blake English teachers empower students to develop facility with language, construct interpretations grounded in analysis, deepen their intercultural competence, participate effectively in small-group and seminar discussions and think critically about the perspectives and narratives that frame the literature we read.

In the English department, teachers collaborate with their colleagues to develop their practice, design innovative curricula and create a coherent experience for students. In addition to classroom instruction, English teachers confer frequently with each of their students about their writing, meet with grade-level teams, hold semester conferences with parents, support students within our advisory program and participate in school initiatives.

This is a full-time interim position to cover a family leave. Because of the duration, this position is not eligible for benefits.

August 19-December 18, 2026

Salary Range: $25,582-$39,002, assuming 4-15 years of teaching with adjustments made outside of that range of experience

The committee will begin reviewing applications on June 18. Blake will typically cover travel and lodging expenses for finalist candidates visiting from out of town.
