Job description

English Second Language Teacherย 
The Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Elementary School is looking for an energetic ESL teacher who wants to make a difference in the lives of each and every student who walks through our doors.ย  We are a small school located in central Minnesota.ย  We are a hours drive from St. Cloud, 2 hour drive from the Twin Cities, 30 minutes from Alexandria, and 3 hours from Duluth.ย  We are surrounded by area lakes, parks, and have one of the last Drive-In Movie theatres in Minnesota.ย  We have a diverse community consisting of European, Mexican, Caribbean, and other nationalities.ย  Fifty two percent of our student population identifies as Hispanic.ย  Todd County is also home of an active Amish population.ย  We serve the communities of Grey Eagle, Burtrum, and Long Prairie.ย ย 
Our district exceeds the state average on meeting the goals of our ESL students.ย  Roughly a quarter of our Spanish speaking students are bilingual.ย  We have family liaison's that serve both at our secondary and elementary schools that also serve as translators.ย  We are also an Achievement and Integration school which provides funds that support our bilingual students in meeting both academic and social needs.ย  Our district has an ESL coordinator who helps coordinate our services throughout the district including the St. Mary's Catholic School.ย  We are committed to meeting the needs of all students.ย  We are looking for a team member to help us continue to provide a world class education.

Salary Range: $50,000- $90,819 - dependent on education and experience

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, foster communication skills, develop an understanding and appreciation of the English Language.
Essential Functions




























  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in studentย education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment, and maintains inventory records.

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, literature and other content areas taught.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Qualifications Profile



Certification/License:

  • English Second Language License byย the State of Minnesotaย 

Education:

  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Masters Degree in related area preferred.

Experience:

  • Successful prior teaching experiences in English preferred.
