Overview
AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Resilience and Emergency Management Intern to join our Atlanta, Georgia office.
REM is a mission-driven, comprehensive and diverse unit of over 100 staff members within the larger company that tackles some of the toughest disaster and resilience challenges across the nation. This internship provides hands-on experience supporting resilience, emergency management, disaster recovery, grants, planning, and infrastructure initiatives for public-sector clients.
Your Role
  • Support resilience, emergency management, disaster recovery, grant, and planning projects through research, data collection, document development, meeting coordination, and follow-up activities.
  • Review, organize, track, and maintain grant applications, reimbursement requests, plans, project records, and related documentation in accordance with program requirements and quality standards.
  • Prepare correspondence, meeting summaries, presentations, maps, reports, briefing materials, forms, logs, and other project deliverables for internal and client use.
  • Maintain project information, datasets, dashboards, SharePoint sites, databases, spreadsheets, and other systems of record to support project delivery and reporting.
  • Conduct research and analysis, including data compilation, data visualization, mapping, GIS support, technical summaries, and reviews of program guidance, policies, and resilience-related topics.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews to ensure the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance of project documents, datasets, and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with grants specialists, planners, engineers, project managers, technical staff, clients, and stakeholders to support project execution, public engagement, site visits, planning activities, and funding programs, including FEMA, HUD, and state agencies.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of project, client, office, and organizational needs

About You
  • EXPERIENCE: No professional experience required. Internship, volunteer, research, customer service, administrative, data analysis, planning, grants, or public-sector experience is a plus.

  • EDUCATION: Completion of at least 60 credit hours toward a degree from an accredited college or university by the start of the internship. Preferred fields include: City and Regional Planning, Geography/GIS, Public Administration/Public Policy, Economics/Finance. A Master's degree may substitute for experience.
  • SPECIAL SKILLS:
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), familiarity with AI-enabled productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot), and the ability to learn SharePoint and other project systems.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, including experience with spreadsheets, data entry, document review, research, and managing multiple assignments with attention to detail. Exposure to ArcGIS, Power BI, Smartsheet, Adobe Acrobat, FEMA grant systems, or similar tools is a plus.

Additional Information
