The Competency Restoration Program Director is responsible for the planning, implementation, and management of the competency restoration program for patients involved in the criminal justice system. This role involves supervising clinical staff, ensuring legal compliance, and optimizing the program’s effectiveness. The position evaluates the delivery of forensic services on the Competency/Restoration Unit in accordance with policies and procedures of YesCare, policies and regulations of the Jail, state statutes concerning the delivery and practice of clinical mental health services, and in accordance with ethics and standards of the staff member's discipline.

Job Duties:

  • Develops and manages the provision of jail-based forensic services and coordinates with the State hospital and/or community for continuity of care for forensic individuals.

  • Provides clinical direction to forensic services staff.

  • Conducts court-ordered client evaluations, provides expert testimony, and makes recommendations based on expertise if/as requested.

  • Compiles data and develops reports.

  • Prepares reports and recommendations for courts if/as requested and testifies to opinions formed during forensic evaluations.

  • Supervises forensic unit mental health staff to ensure clinical appropriateness of treatment planning and programming of forensic patients. Supervises professional staff, paraprofessional staff, and/or student interns.

  • Oversees the timeliness of admission and discharge of forensic patients to ensure compliance with legal requirements.

  • Supervises the maintenance and/or compilation of a variety of information related to forensic services and reports such information to the appropriate department/office.

  • Compliance with employee standards of YesCare and applicable employee standards of the facility. Compliance includes, but is not limited to, the maintenance of a working environment and personal appearance consistent with professional responsibilities, development of harmonious working relationships and timely notification of supervisory personnel of absences from institution.

  • Other services relating to the functioning of the behavioral health department as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology or related field is required.

  • Holds a current license as a Psychologist in the State of employment.

  • Three (3) years or more of supervisory experience in a forensic setting preferred.

  • Subject to initial and ongoing security clearance requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Employees must be able to perform the following:

  • Required to exert up to 50 pounds of force and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including the human body.

  • Required to kneel, stoop, crouch and/or crawl occasionally.

  • Must have and maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during stressful (physical, mental, and emotional) situations encountered on the job without compromising your health and well-being or that of your fellow employees or that of inmates.

  • Long periods sitting, typing, and reading from a computer screen may be required.
