Job Summary

As the Manager, Systems Integration, you will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for the design, integration, certification, deployment and life cycle support of Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems used across Canada and internationally. This is a mission-critical role where system interoperability, operational readiness, safety and reliability are paramount. You will be responsible for the professional growth of your team, the successful delivery of complex integration initiatives and ensuring that internally developed and third-party systems meet stringent aviation safety, engineering and quality standards.

Job Description

Why NAV CANADA?

  • Impactful Leadership: Thrive in a challenging, team-oriented environment where your work ensures the safety of the skies.
  • Elite Rewards: Benefit from competitive compensation and the long-term security of a defined benefit pension plan.
  • Growth-Focused: Access continuous opportunities for professional development to stay at the forefront of aviation innovation.
  • Balanced Flexibility: Maintain peak performance with flexible work arrangements tailored for modern leadership.
  • Inclusive Culture: Lead a diverse workforce that values unique perspectives as a core strength.

In this role you will:

  • People Leadership: Manage, mentor and coach a multidisciplinary team of Systems Engineers and Verification Specialists. Conduct performance reviews, facilitate career development and foster a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture. This includes talent acquisition, onboarding and retention.
  • Systems Integration Leadership: Lead the end-to-end integration of complex ATM systems, providing technical oversight across requirements analysis, system design, interface management, integration planning, verification, certification, deployment and operational transition. Ensure interoperability between internally developed and third-party systems while balancing safety, operational and business priorities.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with Senior Management, Architecture, Software Development, Verification, Infrastructure, Product Owners, Operations and external suppliers to align engineering deliverables with organizational priorities and enterprise roadmaps.
  • Quality & Compliance: Ensure all engineering activities and deliverables comply with established engineering processes, Safety Management Systems (SMS), Quality Management Systems (QMS), regulatory requirements and safety-critical engineering standards (e.g., ED-109A).
  • Operational Readiness & Life Cycle Support: Lead operational readiness activities including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), Shadow Mode, Go-Live planning and transition to operational support. Ensure deployed systems are effectively maintained through corrective maintenance, enhancements, technology refreshes and ongoing life cycle support.
  • Financial and Resource Management: Track team utilization, project effort and resource capacity to ensure alignment with organizational CAPEX/OPEX objectives. Provide regular financial and project health updates to Senior Management while ensuring projects remain within approved funding and resource plans.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent education and experience, supplemented by experience in Air Traffic Management systems or other complex safety-critical environments.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in Systems Engineering, Systems Integration, Verification or Software Engineering, with at least 2-3 years in a formal leadership or supervisory role.
  • Current and in-depth knowledge of rapidly evolving industry trends, computing and communications technologies and products and services available within the Air Traffic Management community.
  • Knowledge and experience in engineering and business management, including business case development, project planning, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, procurement, vendor management and contract administration.
  • Good knowledge of procurement policies, vendor management, tendering processes, proposal evaluations and contracting mechanisms.
  • Experience with systems engineering methodologies, interface management, configuration management, verification planning and engineering lifecycle management tools such as Azure DevOps or equivalent.

How others describe you:

  • Collaborative Leader: Ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, influence technical direction, build consensus and align internal stakeholders, suppliers and operational customers around common engineering and business objectives.
  • Clear, concise and effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop strategies, engineering plans, governance documentation and executive presentations while communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A systems thinker who understands how complex technologies interact across an enterprise environment and can make sound technical decisions while balancing operational, safety and business priorities.

Working Conditions

  • This position is a hybrid position with a minimum of three (3) days per week on site.
  • Occasional travel may be required to operational facilities, customer sites and supplier locations.
  • Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required to support integration testing, operational deployments and critical production activities.

Behaviour Statement

  • All employees of NAV CANADA are expected to demonstrate behaviours aligned with the Company's Code of Business Conduct, values, safety culture and objectives. This includes adherence to all safety policies, engineering standards and procedures corresponding to the responsibilities of the position.

NAV CANADA is committed to building a skilled, diverse workforce reflective of Canadian society.
