Engineering Launch Manager information

What is an engineering launch manager?

Engineering Launch Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the introduction of new products or systems into production within engineering or manufacturing organizations. They coordinate cross-functional teams, manage project timelines, and ensure that all technical and operational requirements are met for a successful product launch. Their role bridges the gap between product development and manufacturing, addressing challenges such as process optimization, quality control, and resource allocation. Engineering Launch Managers play a critical role in ensuring that new products are launched on time, within budget, and to the required specifications.

What are some of the main challenges engineering launch managers face during new product introductions?

Engineering Launch Managers often navigate complex cross-functional communication and tight timelines when introducing new products. Coordinating between engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality assurance teams requires strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Unexpected design changes, supply chain delays, or manufacturing issues may arise, so adaptability and proactive risk management are crucial. Successful Launch Managers excel at identifying potential bottlenecks early and fostering collaboration to ensure on-time and high-quality launches.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an engineering launch manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Engineering Launch Manager, you need a solid background in engineering principles, project management, and manufacturing processes, often supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems, CAD software, and Six Sigma or PMP certifications is commonly required. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and excellent communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These competencies are crucial for successfully coordinating cross-functional teams, meeting launch deadlines, and ensuring product quality during the transition from development to production.

What is the difference between Engineering Launch Manager vs Product Launch Manager?

AspectEngineering Launch ManagerProduct Launch Manager

Required SkillsEngineering knowledge, project management, technical coordinationMarketing, communication, cross-functional coordination
Work EnvironmentEngineering teams, technical departmentsMarketing, sales, product management teams
CertificationsProject management certifications (e.g., PMP), technical certificationsMarketing or product management certifications

The Engineering Launch Manager primarily focuses on coordinating technical and engineering aspects of product launches, ensuring technical readiness and smooth deployment. In contrast, the Product Launch Manager handles the overall go-to-market strategy, coordinating marketing, sales, and product teams. Both roles require strong project management skills but differ in their core responsibilities and focus areas.

Job description

Job Description

At Render, weโ€™re building the modern cloud platform for developers creating AI-native, full-stack, multi-service applications. Our mission is to eliminate the tradeoff between the power of hyperscalers and the simplicity of developer-friendly platforms-so teams can ship fast, scale reliably, and focus on their product, not infrastructure.

Unlike complex hyperscalers or ephemeral edge/serverless solutions, Render offers a developer-first experience with persistent compute, dynamic autoscaling, built-in orchestration, and observability, allowing teams to launch, scale, and manage real-world applications without writing infrastructure code or managing servers. Whether youโ€™re building LLM-powered applications, scalable SaaS products, or async processing pipelines, Render empowers teams to move fast and scale confidently from MVP to millions of users.

Our platform is trusted by over 7 million developers worldwide and continues to grow rapidly. In February 2026, we raised an additional $100M in Series C financing, bringing our total funding to $260M, to accelerate our vision of making cloud infrastructure both powerful and intuitive-designed for the speed of modern AI development.

Weโ€™re a diverse and talented team that values craft, velocity, and user experience. If youโ€™re excited to help shape the future of the intelligent cloud and empower developers everywhere, weโ€™d love to hear from you.

Applying to Render

Weโ€™re seeking candidates who possess high integrity, humility, and an insatiable drive to learn. Through reasoned discussions and continuous feedback, we strive to improve both individually and collectively. We foster an environment of mutual trust and respect, empowering effective debate to achieve the best outcomes for our customers and team.

We especially encourage members of underrepresented groups in the tech community to apply and understand that not all successful candidates will meet each requirement listed.

Our interview process is unique to each role, and we value the candidate experience just as much as our customer experience. We hope your conversations with us reflect a thoughtful process that is illuminative, enjoyable, and respectful of your time.

About the Role

As an Engineering Manager for Postgres, you will lead a group of talented engineers building and maintaining the Render Postgres product. This role blends strong technical leadership with product thinking: youโ€™ll partner closely with product managers and designers to translate user needs into a highโ€‘quality, scalable system, that hundreds of thousands of developers rely on every day. Youโ€™ll be responsible for guiding technical direction, developing engineers, and ensuring the team ships meaningful improvements quickly while maintaining the high standards that define Renderโ€™s platform. The ideal candidate brings a strong engineering background, a deep sense of ownership, experience building stateful services, and a passion for building products that developers love.

What Youโ€™ll Do

Lead and grow a team of postgres engineers, supporting their development through mentorship, feedback, and clear technical guidance.

Drive execution on key product initiatives from ideation through launch, balancing speed with high standards of reliability and quality.

Partner closely with Product, Design, and Infra teams to translate customer needs into thoughtful technical solutions and product roadmaps.

Engage deeply in technical discussions, guiding system design decisions and helping the team navigate architectural tradeoffs.

Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement across engineering practices and team processes.

Help the team break down complex problems into incremental milestones that deliver value quickly while supporting longโ€‘term platform evolution.

Ensure teams maintain a strong understanding of the developer experience and customer impact of the features they build.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with product management, customers, and internal teams to understand needs, align priorities, and ensure delivery of impactful features and solutions.

Nice-to-haves:

This position is generally not eligible for new visa sponsorship. At Renderโ€™s discretion, the business may sponsor existing visa transfers. Applicants who require sponsorship must receive business authorization.

Render is an equalโ€‘opportunity employer. We know that employing a team rich in diverse thoughts, experiences, and opinions allows our employees, product, and community to flourish. We make all employment decisions including hiring, evaluation, termination, promotional, and training opportunities, without regard to race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, physical handicap, mental disability, medical condition, disability, gender or identity or expression, pregnancy or pregnancyโ€‘related condition, marital status, height and/or weight.

We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please contact us to request accommodation.
