Overview

The Clinical Simulation Lab Specialist is responsible for supporting the coordination, operation, and maintenance of simulation-based learning environments, ensuring simulation activities are executed efficiently and consistently.

What you will do

• Coordinate day‑to‑day simulation lab operations, including scheduling, room setup, teardown, and turnover to ensure efficient utilization of lab space and resources.
• Prepare simulation environments for learning activities, including equipment setup, supply staging, scenario programming, and technology testing prior to sessions.
• Operate high‑, mid‑, and low‑fidelity simulations and equipment, including manikins and audiovisual systems to support scenario execution and learner engagement.
• Manage simulation technology during sessions, including real‑time physiological adjustments, troubleshooting, and scenario flow support.
• Serve as the voice/operator for manikins and support standardized patient coordination as applicable.
• Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repair of simulation equipment; escalates complex issues to vendors as needed.
• Maintain inventory of simulation supplies and equipment; monitor par levels and coordinate ordering and replacement to ensure operational readiness.
• Ensure simulation lab readiness through standardized setup processes, equipment checks, and adherence to safety and infection control practices.
• Collaborate with clinical educators and program leads to translate learning objectives into simulation setup, equipment needs, and technical execution plans.
• Support simulation‑based education across orientation, transition to practice, competency validation, and ongoing professional development programs.
• Assist with scenario preparation, including programming, testing, and resetting simulation scenarios to ensure consistency across sessions.
• Manage audiovisual recording systems, including setup, recording, storage, and retrieval of simulation sessions to support debriefing and evaluation.
• Track and document simulation utilization metrics, equipment usage, and operational data to support program evaluation and continuous improvement.
• Maintain organization of the simulation lab, storage areas, and digital files to ensure accessibility and standardization across users.
• Provide onboarding and basic training to educators and facilitators on simulation equipment.
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies, accreditation standards, and simulation best practice (e.g., SSH standards).
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance simulation efficiency, standardization, and learner experience.
• Support special projects, system initiatives, and expansion of simulation capabilities.

Education and Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a relevant area of professional practice (Allied Health, Respiratory Care).
• Master's Degree in Nursing (preferred).
• Minimum 2 years of general nursing or clinical practice.
• Preferred: Experience as simulation lab staff, clinical educator, or in a clinical academic or professional development role.

• Skilled facilitator, coach, and mentor across levels of clinical associates.
• Experience with simulation‑based development.
• Knowledge of competency‑based education, evidence‑based practice, and quality improvement methodologies.
• Knowledge and skill in clinical care.

Supervision Provided by this Position

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities but may assign work or lead assigned projects.

Physical Demands

The role may require climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion; requires good balance and coordination. Light work may involve exerting up to 50lbs of force occasionally or up to 25lbs of force frequently. Close visual acuity is required for performing tasks such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, or extensive reading. Typical work conditions are similar to general office or administrative work. Occasional travel to other Methodist LeBonheur locations may be required.
