Job description

The Quality Engineer (QE) is responsible for driving quality performance across supplier, customer, and manufacturing operations at AMETEK PDT. This role collaborates cross-functionally with Engineering, Procurement, Operations, and Supply Chain to ensure compliance with customer requirements, AS9100 standards, and internal quality systems.

The QE leads efforts to integrate quality into manufacturing processes, manage supplier performance, support customer quality activities, and maintain effective quality controls. This position requires strong expertise in quality engineering and a hands-on, data-driven approach within an industrial or aerospace manufacturing environment.

Essential responsibilities include the following:

  • Ensure accurate and complete production shipment documentation packages
  • Manage corrective and preventive actions (customer, supplier, and audit related CARs)
  • Lead First Article Inspection (FAI) activities in accordance with AS9102
  • Review and approve Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) impacting production
  • Support customer, internal, and third-party audits (e.g., AS9100, ISO)
  • Support Material Review Board (MRB) activities for nonconformances
  • Maintain and improve the Quality Management System (QMS), procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Define, monitor, and report key quality performance indicators (KPIs), including:
    • Customer quality metrics (e.g., nonconformances, CAPAs, escapes)
    • Supplier quality performance
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using statistical analysis tools
  • Lead cost of poor quality (COPQ) reduction initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs
  • Position is subject to ITAR restrictions

Other Duties May Include:

  • Conduct supplier audits and on-site assessments
  • Maintain the Approved Supplier List (ASL) and manage supplier qualifications
  • Develop and issue supplier scorecards; communicate quarterly performance results
  • Manage Supplier Deviation Waiver Requests (DWRs) and maintain deviation logs
  • Administer the Certified Supplier / Ship-to-Stock (STS) program
  • Investigate and resolve customer quality issues, including complaints, escapes, and root cause analysis
  • Support Return Material Authorizations (RMAs) and ensure proper documentation
  • Support customer deviation requests and related approvals

Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology or related field from an accredited college or university
  • ERP experience desired
  • Three (3) or more years of Quality Engineering/Quality Control experience in manufacturing
  • LEAN Certification preferred

Requires Knowledge of:

  • Engineering theory, drawings, GD&T, and terminology
  • Quality management systems
  • Quality assurance inspection and test procedures

Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires highly developed communication, interpersonal skills and critical thinking and problem-solving skills; time and project management skills; detail oriented with strong organizational skills. Requires the ability to learn and understand customer and industry specifications and requirements applicable to PDT products

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Requires the ability to access all areas of the facility
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and use office equipment and tools repeatively or long periods of time
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds in the course of normal duties
  • Ability to see details at close range (near vision)
  • Dexterity for use of tools required for job

Work Conditions include:

  • Required to work with hazardous chemicals
  • May be exposed to environment with loud noise and extreme temperatures.
