About this PositionThe Engineering Inspector I inspects plans, workmanship, and materials involved in the construction, installation, and repair of streets, sidewalks, water and sanitary sewer lines, and other facilities. Their goal is to secure compliance with specifications, City ordinances, and regulations governing public works facilities. This position's work schedule is four (4) 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday.
The Engineering Department operates as a team, with each member helping the others in their work. The goal is to help each other and make this a great place to work!
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2 years of related experience and/or training
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 7 to 11 months of management experience
- People and/or project management
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Responsibilities- Conduct field inspections for streets, storm sewers, driveways, sidewalks, etc.
- Visually inspect the quality and grade of materials in construction (asphalt, sand, gravel, concrete, etc.)
- Prepare reports and maintain records on inspection activity and progress
- Inspect the installation of water and sanitary sewer lines and fire hydrants
- Check bedding, placement, and connections of pipes
- Obtain evidence and prepare notices concerning violations
- Interpret construction requirements and recommend compliance procedures
- Observe conditions and issue notices for corrections
- Coordinate utility service interruptions between contractors, citizens, businesses, and other City departments
Necessary Skills- Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
- Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug and audio screenings
