How much do engineering design lab jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 17, 2026, the average hourly pay for engineering design lab in the United States is $47.92, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $36.78 and $60.10 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What types of engineers work in labs?

Engineers working in labs include mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical, and software engineers, each specializing in different technical fields. They often use tools like CAD software, testing equipment, and simulation programs to design, test, and improve products or systems in a controlled environment.

What is the difference between Engineering Design Lab vs Mechanical Engineer?

AspectEngineering Design Lab

Engineering Design Lab roles focus on hands-on product development, prototyping, and experimental testing within a lab environment. They often require skills in CAD, prototyping, and basic engineering principles, with certifications like engineering degrees or technical diplomas. Mechanical Engineers also work in labs but typically have broader responsibilities including design, analysis, and manufacturing processes. Both roles are common in industries like aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing, but Engineering Design Labs emphasize experimental work and rapid prototyping, while Mechanical Engineers focus on comprehensive design and analysis.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Senior engineering roles such as petroleum engineers, aerospace engineers, or specialized software engineers with extensive experience and advanced skills can earn $500,000 or more annually, often including bonuses and stock options. These positions typically require advanced degrees, significant industry experience, and expertise in high-demand technical areas.

What jobs will boom in 2026?

In 2026, roles in engineering design, such as CAD engineers, systems engineers, and product development specialists, are expected to grow due to increased demand for innovative and sustainable solutions. Skills in computer-aided design software, automation, and renewable energy technologies will be particularly valuable in this field.

What is a design engineer's job salary?

A design engineer's salary varies based on experience, location, and industry, but typically ranges from $65,000 to $110,000 annually. Entry-level positions may start lower, while experienced engineers with specialized skills or certifications can earn higher wages, especially in high-demand sectors like aerospace or automotive design.
