Job description
This position is open for external candidates only to apply.
The Plutonium Facilities Engineering Division (PFE-DO) and Waste Facilities (PFE-WF) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) are seeking an Architectural Engineer. Put your engineering talents to good use by joining our world-class Engineering team! Our workforce thrives in an environment that values creativity and problem solving, where every idea and perspective is welcomed. This is your chance to make a real difference while working on important systems directly impacting national security.
As the successful candidate, you will join the Plutonium Facilities Engineering team designing, maintaining and upgrading facility architectural and structural systems and components at nuclear waste processing, storage and characterization facilities on the LANL campus. You will be expected to develop design details, structural analysis calculations, specifications, and special inspections that incorporate applicable design requirements, including nuclear safety requirements, into new facility designs as well as modifications to existing facilities.
Additionally, architectural aspects of facility design and modifications will require your input on aspects of emergency egress and space planning in order to keep the occupants safe and productive.
Nuclear Facilities Engineer 1 ($96,600 - $158,000)
Within this job, successful candidates will have the opportunity to support the Laboratory's mission by renovating rooms, modifying buildings and structures, and developing new structures within and around the plutonium facility.
Often within this role, architectural engineers will be evaluating the placement of specialized mechanical, electrical and material processing equipment and specifying its support and/or anchorage within the building. Additionally, they will be expected to provide support to Operations and Maintenance groups within the facility to ensure architectural, structural and related building systems are performing as expected, as well as ensuring physical systems, structures and components, and the related documentation are in alignment with nuclear safety, building code, life safety code and other requirements.
Nuclear Facilities Engineer 2 ($106,400 - $176,000)
In addition to the description above, engineers in this position will work alongside junior and senior engineers (e.g., fire protection, structural, mechanical, and electrical) and other peers in team settings to complete collaborative full-system design solutions through mentoring and leadership. At this level, familiarity with and prior use of building and life-safety codes, such as ICC IBC, IEBC and NFPA 101 is expected.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
