Job description

Overview
Filtran is seeking a test lab technician in their engineering department.
The test lab technician is responsible for supporting Automotive Filtration product testing by setting up, executing, monitoring, and documenting laboratory tests.
This role ensures that all testing is performed accurately, safely, and in compliance with internal procedures, customer specifications, and industry standards.
The technician will work closely with engineers and quality teams to validate product performance and reliability.
Responsibilities
Set up and operate laboratory test equipment for evaluation of automotive filtration products (oil, transmission, fuel, hydraulic filters, etc.)
Conduct performance, durability, and validation testing according to established procedures and engineering specifications
Monitor tests, record accurate data, and identify abnormalities or deviations
Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of lab equipment
Prepare test samples, fixtures, and instrumentation as required
Compile, analyze, and document test results in reports and databases
Assist engineers with test development, validation protocols, and continuous improvement initiatives
Follow all lab safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company policies
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory workspace (5S standards)
Support root cause analysis and failure investigations when required
Qualifications
Qualifications/Education:
BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Automotive Technology , Electronics Technology or related field.
Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Automotive Technology, Electronics Technology, Hydraulics or related field.
Experience:
1-3 years of experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or automotive testing environment preferred.
Experience with filtration testing or fluid systems is a plus.
Technical Skills:
Familiarity with automotive systems and components
Ability to operate test equipment, sensors, data acquisition systems, and instrumentation.
Basic understanding of test methods, engineering drawings, and specifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word Power Point ) for data entry and reporting
Experience with data logging or lab software is an advantage
Soft Skills:
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Good problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods in a lab environment
Capability to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally
Comfortable working around mechanical equipment, fluids, and test rigs
Work Environment:
Laboratory setting with exposure to automotive fluids, test equipment, and noise
May require use of PPE (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with ISO/TS (IATF 16949) automotive quality standards
Knowledge of filtration testing standards (ISO, SAE, OEM-specific tests)
Basic mechanical assembly, fabrication skills work with Power tools...etc.
