Carrier is seeking a 2nd Shift HVAC Supervisor & Engineering Lab Technician for our Charlotte manufacturing facility. This is a hands-on working supervisor role: we are looking for a technical lead who is ready to contribute to the labor and technical execution alongside their team. You will lead the transition from 1st shift to 2nd shift, acting as the primary supervisor for the facility's lab operations during these hours to ensure continuity and test lab productivity. The HVAC Supervisor & Engineering Lab Technician reports to the Lab Manager.
This role is designed for someone who thrives in complex, high-speed environments. You will manage massive infrastructure, including high flow hydronic pumping systems (up to 4,000 GPM) and high-power electrical setups. We value reliability and the "detective mindset" required for troubleshooting and diagnostics during a critical production ramp up. If you are a hands-on leader ready to bridge the gap between technical execution and team coordination, we want you on our team.
This is a high visibility, high impact position. Our customers, ranging from hospitals to data centers, rely on these chillers for mission critical cooling. They expect to see their units tested to perfection before they leave our facility. As the 2nd shift lead, you are the final gatekeeper of quality and reliability, making you a vital contributor to Carrier's global growth and customer trust.
Shift: Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM
What You Will Gain
  • The Impact You Will Make: You ensure that every chiller tested on your shift meets the exact specifications of our customers. You are the final guardian of the trust our clients place in Carrier.
  • Operational Excellence: By driving high lab productivity and maintaining equipment uptime, you directly influence our ability to scale operations and meet global demand.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Lead and organize a team of technicians (run techs and setup techs) to conduct water-cooled and air-cooled chiller testing.
  • Hands On Testing: Personally execute test runs, set up chillers with relevant instrumentation (flow meters, pressure sensors, etc.), and monitor data acquisition systems.
  • Facility Oversight: Manage and monitor support infrastructure, including boilers, cooling towers, and high-pressure pumping systems.
  • Diagnostics: Identify failures in PLCs or instrumentation; coordinate with maintenance to resolve issues and minimize downtime.
  • EHS & Compliance: Enforce strict electrical safety (High Power / High Voltage) and calibration standards to maintain a zero-incident environment.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma / GED.
  • 5+ years of HVAC industry experience.
  • 2+ years of experience working with precise measurement systems (electrical, temperature, pressure, flow).
  • 1+ years of high voltage or high-power electrical experience including safety awareness.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialized Experience: Previous experience working specifically within HVAC, data center, HVAC testing, or engineering laboratory environments and/or servicing/maintaining commercial HVAC equipment.
  • Degree: Mechatronics Engineering Technology AAS.
  • Industrial Depth: 10 or more years of experience with commercial HVAC systems in a lab, manufacturing, or industrial setting.
  • System Knowledge: Working knowledge of PLC diagnostics and defect finding (functional understanding, not programming).
  • Software Literacy: Familiarity with LabView / LabPro applications or National Instruments systems.
  • Standards: Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) or AHRI standards for commercial equipment.

Pay Range
The annual salary for this position is between $64,500.00 - $129,500.00 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range include, but are not limited to, skills, education, experience, and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate.
