MAIN PURPOSE: The Mine Engineer Technician provides support for the mine technical services department, using engineering principles and practices to perform survey, mine planning, geology, and geotechnical engineering functions.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

  • Perform quality control testing, including:
  • Pull-testing of ground support elements
  • Compressive strength testing of cemented rock fill
  • Gradation and moisture testing of aggregate materials
  • Ventilation surveys for model verification
  • Collect data using various equipment and methodologies, including:
  • Using total station to survey daily mining advance, month-end measurements, and completed headings
  • Capturing 3D scans of headings and stopes using drone, LiDAR, and CMS systems
  • Logging properties of core including recovery, quality, strength, and composition
  • Installation and maintenance of instrumentation underground and on surface for monitoring rock movement, water elevation, and gas levels
  • Safely operate machinery and equipment including light duty vehicle, tractor, forklift, scissor deck, core saw, hydraulic ram, and assorted hand tools.
  • Prepare and update maps to reflect latest information using Deswik.CAD software
  • Perform basic calculations and compile reports summarizing results
  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree or certification in a field of engineering technology is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of professional experience (technical and/or operations)
  • Previous experience with mining/CAD software preferred
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills required
  • Ability to work independently and self-start required
  • Experience operating heavy equipment preferred
  • Valid US driver’s license required.
