Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Structural Engineer in Training with at least three years of professional experience to join our growing team in Sacramento, CA. You will design, analyze, and oversee structural systems for a diverse range of commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects. Working closely with architects, contractors, and project managers, you will deliver safe, efficient, and code-compliant structural solutions that clients can count on. 

What You’ll Do 

• Perform structural analysis and design calculations using industry-standard software and methodologies 
• Develop detailed structural drawings, specifications, and technical documentation in compliance with applicable building codes and standards 
• Conduct site assessments and evaluations to identify structural requirements and potential challenges 
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, MEP engineers, and contractors to ensure project coordination and successful execution 
• Review and evaluate construction documents, shop drawings, and submittals for structural compliance 
• Provide technical support during construction administration and resolve on-site structural issues 
• Optimize structural designs for cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and constructability 
• Keep project files and documentation organized and audit-ready 
• Keep pace with evolving building codes, industry standards, and best practices, and bring that knowledge into your daily work 
• Present technical findings and recommendations clearly to clients, team members, and stakeholders 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering; Master’s degree preferred 
• EIT certification required 
• PE certification obtained or actively in progress 
• At least three years of relevant full-time experience in structural engineering design 
• Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETABS, SAP2000) 
• Solid understanding of structural engineering principles, mechanics, and materials 
• Knowledge of building codes, standards, and construction practices 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail 
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for clear project documentation and collaboration 
• Comfortable owning your work independently while actively engaging as a collaborative team member

Physical Demands and Work Environment 
• This role includes regular desk work and occasional site visits, which may involve climbing ladders, navigating uneven terrain, and light lifting (up to 15 lbs).

Compensation and Benefits  
Compensation 
The base salary for this role is competitive, with a range of $75,000 - $100,000, determined by experience, education, and skills. KPFF also offers performance-based bonuses to recognize outstanding contributions. Additional details about the full compensation package will be provided during the interview process.
