What You Will Do
Are you a talented and driven engineer looking to develop, maintain, and apply a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions? Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a skilled professional to join our Engineering Services (ES) Division as a Mechanical Engineer. As a vital member of the ES-DO team you will contribute to the implementation of the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program at LANL in support of systems, structure and component modifications and new installations, as well as supporting existing systems, modifications and customers occupying the facilities.
This position supports the Weapons Facilities Operations (WFO) portfolio consisting of nuclear, accelerator and non-nuclear facilities, spanning half of the laboratory's footprint. As an Electrical Engineer in this area, you will directly support facilities with a direct impact on LANL's stockpile modernization mission. Daily tasks include but are not limited to response to emerging facility issues, configuration management including facility technical baseline management, electrical/pressure safety support, reviewing designs for facility modification and providing system health reporting.
Note: This position will be filled at either the Nuclear Facilities Engineer 1/Nuclear Facilities Engineer 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Mechanical Engineer 1 ($96,600 - $158,000)
As a Mechanical Engineer with Engineering Services, you will serve as the owner's representative for engineering for your assigned facilities. You will concurrently interface with design teams, maintenance, and operations, shaping LANL's facilities and infrastructure to serve the needs of a growing and changing portfolio. The level 1 role includes the following job opportunities:

Mechanical Engineer 2 ($106,400 - $176,000)
In addition to duties listed above, the level 2 role includes the following job duties:

• Develop skills to independently run all engineering facets of a project from scoping to construction to sustainment
• Foster relationships with project stakeholders and customers as a representative of Engineering Services
• Facilitate technical growth of the engineering team

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:

• Ability to prepare calculations, apply engineering methods, and apply technology aided engineering tools to facility and operations-based engineering challenges
• Ability to support timely and collaborative construction execution
• This includes timely review of submittals, requests for information (RFIs), design changes, non-conformance issues, validation of commissioning documentation and produce accurate as-built documents
• Basic knowledge of engineering principles, codes, and standards

Additional Job Requirements for System Engineer Level 2:

• Demonstrated design experience in commercial and/or government sectors
• Knowledge of engineering work planning and design coordination
• Ability to collaboratively problem solve, show commitment, and function well in a team environment
• Thorough knowledge of engineering principles
• Demonstrated experience in the development of engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, test and inspection plans (TIPs), and statements of special inspection (SSIs)

Education/Experience for System Engineer 1: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 2 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Current registration as a Engineer in Training (EIT) is highly desirable.
Education/Experience for System Engineer 2: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 3 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable.
Desired Qualifications:

• Mechanical engineering degree and/or experience with facility Mechanical systems is strongly preferred
• Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
• Design or operations experience in nuclear, accelerator or industrial facility operations
• Experienced in producing designs utilizing AutoCAD and/or Revit tools and work processes
• Knowledge of DOE, LANL Engineering Standards, and Conduct of Engineering principles and procedures

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
