Water Resources Engineer - Transportation Infrastructure - Base Salary to 120k/year - Richmond, VA

  • Our client is a multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm seeking a Water Resources Engineer to support transportation and infrastructure projects throughout Virginia. This position offers the opportunity to lead technical design efforts, perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams on complex drainage and stormwater projects.
  • The ideal candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer with experience in water resources engineering, stormwater management, drainage design, and hydraulic modeling. This individual will play a key role in project delivery while supporting the development of junior engineering staff and contributing to client-facing project activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare engineering studies, technical reports, drainage analyses, and design calculations for water resources and transportation-related projects.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for roadway, transportation, and infrastructure projects.
  • Develop engineering designs related to stormwater management, drainage systems, culverts, and water resources infrastructure.
  • Prepare construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, permit documentation, and contract documents.
  • Review engineering designs to ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, permitting requirements, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and technical staff to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Review engineering plans, calculations, and design documents prepared by junior engineers.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to entry-level and junior engineering staff.
  • Participate in quality control reviews and support continuous improvement of engineering and design practices.
  • Attend client meetings, stakeholder coordination meetings, and project presentations as needed.
  • Conduct occasional site visits, field investigations, and project assessments.
  • Remain current with industry standards, stormwater regulations, hydraulic modeling methodologies, and water resources engineering best practices.
  • Support CAD and design standards implementation and process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Virginia PE license preferred or ability to obtain Virginia licensure through reciprocity.
  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience.
  • Experience with water resources engineering, drainage design, stormwater management, hydrologic analysis, hydraulic analysis, and hydraulic modeling.
  • Experience preparing engineering plans, construction documents, technical reports, and permitting documentation.
  • Strong understanding of engineering design standards, construction documentation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience supporting transportation, roadway, infrastructure, or municipal engineering projects.
  • Ability to review technical work products and mentor junior engineering staff.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative engineering team environment.
