Job description

Position Summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Pulmonary/Allergy/Critical Care Department, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Researcher to join a multidisciplinary biomedical research team. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research involving genome engineering, transgenic animal model development, molecular biology, cell biology, and translational medicine. The Researcher will lead and support projects involving CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, molecular characterization of genetic modifications, transgenic animal production, and advanced cellular and molecular analyses. This position offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative environment supporting innovative research programs across multiple areas within a stable funding environment supported by a Federal Contract and multi-PI grants.

General Responsibilities

As a Researcher, you will play a key role in driving scientific discovery by independently leading and executing research projects. This professional-level position demands a high degree of expertise and judgement in designing studies, analyzing data, and may involve assistants in publishing findings. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage project timelines, and contribute to grant writing and securing funding for future research. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.  

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Genotype and characterize genetically modified animal models.

  2. Manage genotyping of the transgenic colony by an external company.

  3. Perform molecular analyses including PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR assays.

  4. Conduct protein studies using Western blotting, ELISA, and related techniques.

  5. Establish and maintain mammalian cell lines and primary cell cultures.

  6. Perform confocal imaging and data interpretation.

  7. Analyze experimental data using statistical software and prepare research reports.

  8. Manage laboratory resources, equipment, and supplies, train and mentor junior staff, students, and laboratory personnel.

  9. Collaborate with investigators to advance basic and translational research projects.

  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range:   $50,050- $ 81,330

Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field OR Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Associate's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required or High School diploma or GED and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences or a related field is strongly preferred.

  • Candidates with genotyping experience, specifically CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing are preferred.
