As an Engine Storekeeper, your day-to-day tasks will include managing and organizing spare parts and materials for the engine department, issuing components to engineers upon request, and updating inventory records. To thrive as an Engine Storekeeper, you need a strong understanding of inventory control, parts identification, and recordkeeping, often supported by prior maritime or engineering experience. Familiarity with inventory management software, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and safety certifications such as STCW are commonly required. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and effective communication are valuable soft skills that enable efficient stock management and clear reporting. These capabilities help ensure essential engine parts are tracked, stored, and distributed properly, minimizing downtime and supporting smooth vessel operations.
An Engine Storekeeper is responsible for managing engine room inventory, including spare parts, tools, and consumables, on a vessel or in an industrial setting. They maintain stock levels, track usage, and ensure that all required items are available for maintenance and repairs. Additionally, they document transactions, follow safety procedures, and coordinate with engineers and suppliers. Their role is essential for the efficient operation of the engine department, preventing delays due to missing components.
