Job description

Performance Power Systems

Savannah, Georgia | Full-Time

Build Something Exceptional

Performance Power Systems is launching a new Heavy Diesel Engine Machine Shop and is seeking an experienced Machine Shop Lead to help establish the operation using new Rottler equipment. This is a hands-on technical position with leadership potential as the division grows.

Compensation: $40–$50/hr DOE + OT | Full benefits | Relocation assistance available

Performance Power Systems, an Authorized Caterpillar Marine Dealer with more than 30 years in business, is launching a brand-new Heavy Diesel Engine Machining Division in Savannah — built around new Rottler equipment. We're looking for one exceptional machinist to become the founding technical leader of that operation.

This isn't production-line work. You'll help build the shop's procedures, quality standards, and tooling from the ground up, work hands-on with new Rottler equipment, and grow into a leadership role as the division expands.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Machine engine blocks, cylinder heads, connecting rods, camshafts, flywheels, valve guides and valve seats.
  • Perform cylinder boring, honing, block decking, line boring and line honing.
  • Operate manual machine tools and Rottler machining equipment.
  • Use micrometers, dial bore gauges, dial indicators and precision measuring equipment.
  • Read OEM specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Assist with equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Help develop shop procedures and quality standards.
  • Maintain inspection and machining documentation.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized shop.
  • Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of manual machining experience.
  • Experience machining diesel engine components.
  • Experience with engine rebuilding and precision measurement.
  • Ability to read OEM specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Rottler, Sunnen, Serdi, KwikWay, or Berco equipment.
  • Experience with Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, John Deere, MAN, MTU, Scania, Volvo Penta, Perkins or Deutz engines.
  • Experience mentoring machinists or helping establish machine shop procedures.
  • Benefits
  • Competitive compensation based on experience
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Medical, Dental & Vision
  • Companypaid STD, LTD & Life Insurance
  • Paid Time Off & Holidays
  • 401(k)
  • Training and advancement
  • Relocation assistance may be available
  • Why Join PPS?

This is not repetitive production work. You'll help establish a new heavy diesel machining operation, work with new Rottler equipment, solve complex machining challenges, and have the ability to grow as the division expands.

    Ready to Build Something Exceptional?

We are looking for a craftsman, mentor, and leader—not simply someone to run a machine. If you take pride in machining components correctly the first time, enjoy solving complex engine problems, and want your experience to matter, we’d like to meet you.
