What is the difference between Engine Performance Simulation Engineer vs Powertrain Engineer?

AspectEngine Performance Simulation EngineerPowertrain Engineer
Primary FocusModeling and simulating engine performance and efficiencyDesigning and optimizing entire powertrain systems, including engine, transmission, and drivetrain
Required SkillsEngine simulation software, thermodynamics, engine mechanicsPowertrain integration, system-level analysis, control systems
Work EnvironmentR&D labs, simulation software environmentsDesign studios, testing facilities, cross-disciplinary teams
Industry UsageAutomotive, aerospace, heavy machineryAutomotive, commercial vehicles, hybrid/electric vehicle development

The Engine Performance Simulation Engineer specializes in creating detailed models to analyze engine behavior, while the Powertrain Engineer focuses on designing and integrating all components of the vehicle's power delivery system. What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Engine Performance Simulation Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Engine Performance Simulation Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or automotive engineering, strong analytical skills, and experience with thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. Proficiency with simulation software such as GT-Power, MATLAB/Simulink, and CAD tools, along with knowledge of engine modeling methodologies, is typically required. Outstanding problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication skills set top performers apart. These skills and qualities are crucial for accurately predicting engine performance, optimizing designs, and collaborating efficiently in multidisciplinary engineering teams.

What are some common challenges faced by Engine Performance Simulation Engineers during project development?

Engine Performance Simulation Engineers often encounter challenges such as accurately modeling complex engine behaviors, managing large volumes of simulation data, and ensuring that simulation results align with real-world test data. Collaborating closely with design, testing, and calibration teams is essential to interpret results and refine simulation models. Additionally, keeping up with rapidly evolving simulation tools and integrating them into existing workflows can be demanding. Overcoming these challenges requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication with multidisciplinary teams.

What does an Engine Performance Simulation Engineer do?

An Engine Performance Simulation Engineer is responsible for using advanced software tools to model, analyze, and predict the performance of internal combustion engines or alternative powertrains. They simulate how engines will operate under various conditions, optimize engine parameters for efficiency and emissions, and support the design process before physical prototypes are built. Their work helps manufacturers create engines that meet performance, fuel economy, and regulatory requirements more efficiently and cost-effectively.

Job description

About Suno
We're building the world's first creative entertainment platform, where the entire world can feel the joy and fulfilment of making music. Music is for everyone: Our users include everyone from grandmothers creating songs for their loved ones, to Grammy winners using Suno Studio, our power tool, to make the most popular hits in the world.
Building the future of entertainment requires ambition. The pace is fast, the problems are hard, and the work demands ownership and intensity. For the right people, it's incredibly rewarding: a chance to shape a new medium, work with a small team that cares deeply about quality, make music, drink too much coffee, and build something that millions of people use to express themselves in ways that were never before possible.
Suno is the fastest growing consumer entertainment company and the leader in AI music. We are backed by leading investors including Bond Capital, Menlo Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, IVP, Forerunner, Union Square Ventures, Alkeon, Quiet, Matrix Partners, Schroders Capital and, NVentures (venture arm of NVIDIA).
About the Role
Search is no longer a list of blue links: it's an answer engine, and Suno needs to be the answer in every language, on every platform, in every market where our next wave of creators lives.
You will be our first SEO & AEO hire, building the organic discovery engine from scratch. That means owning strategy across traditional search, AI answer engines, and whatever surfaces come next - working directly with engineering and performance marketing, and shipping without bottlenecks.
You will be building and running agentic systems at scale - not just using tools, but building AEO and SEO systems that never before existed. We expect this person to build agentic systems that change what is possible for a team of one.
Listen to the song we made about it: https://suno.com/s/YMxMA6NUUTpNT5jw
What You'll Do
  • Build Suno's SEO & AEO strategy from the ground up -be the single source of truth for how Suno is discovered.
  • Define what AEO means for a category-defining product -shape how Suno surfaces inside ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and whatever answer engines come next.
  • Build agentic AI systems that change the scale of what one person can do -from content pipelines and programmatic page generation to monitoring to reporting,
  • Run programmatic SEO & AEO at global scale - identify high-leverage query spaces across markets, ship content and page systems that capture durable demand, and account for how search behavior and intent differ by region and language.
  • Partner with engineering on technical SEO & AEO -site architecture, indexation, schema, Core Web Vitals, and localization infrastructure, without becoming a bottleneck.
  • Partner closely with performance marketing - share keyword, query, and audience signal to sharpen paid targeting, align on landing page strategy, and make sure organic and paid are building toward the same demand, not duplicating effort.
  • Bring search and AI conversation signal into product decisions - identify query and topic opportunities that inform feature prioritization, and make the case for building things that capture durable demand before competitors do

Qualifications
  • 5-8 years in SEO with a clear track record of driving non-branded demand at scale - page production, infrastructure wins, site speed - across multiple markets or languages
  • Meaningful, recent hands-on experience in AEO: you understand how AI answer engines surface content, have a point of view on winning share of voice for primary value props, and can execute on it
  • Strong communication and measurement skills: SEO and AEO have long feedback loops, and this person can set clear expectations, build projections, and convey impact to stakeholders who are used to faster-moving performance channels
  • Deep technical SEO skills: crawl, indexation, schema, Core Web Vitals, and enough technical fluency to work directly with engineers and get changes prioritized and shipped
  • Programmatic SEO experience at meaningful scale
  • Strong command of offsite citation strategy and how it intersects with both traditional and AI-driven search
  • Demonstrated ability to build agentic AI systems -- not tools you use, but things you have built
  • Proven track record of driving organic growth across multiple international markets, with a real understanding of how search behavior and intent differ by region and language.

Additional Notes
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in the US.
  • Applicants are required to work from our office in NYC.

Compensation
The annual salary range for this role is $140K - $160K + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k)
Perks & Benefits for Full-Time Employees
  • Generous Company Equity Package
  • 401(k) with 3% Employer Match & Roth 401(k)
  • Unlimited PTO & Sick Time
  • Medical, Dental, & Vision Insurance (PPO w/ HSA & FSA options)
  • Continued / Creative Education Stipend
  • Generous Commuter Allowance
  • Free In-Office Lunch Delivery (5 Days per Week)
