Job Description
Summary
Energy Management oversees MU's district-energy combined heat and power (CHP) system, which provides utility services to more than 16 million square feet of facilities, including hospitals and clinics, a research reactor, research facilities, laboratories, academic buildings, residential halls, dining facilities, recreational and athletic facilities, computing centers, and administrative buildings.
Utility services include steam, electricity, domestic water, chilled water, storm and sanitary sewer, utility distribution, insulation services, building energy automation and conservation, new and renovated building HVAC commissioning, and coordination of utilities for MU's off-campus facilities.
At the heart of our operations is the cutting-edge Combined Cooling, Heating, and Power Plant (CCHP), which generates steam, chilled water, and electricity to heat, cool, and energize more than 16 million square feet of academic, research, athletic, and healthcare facilities.
Our impact extends far beyond energy generation. With more than 100 miles of underground utility distribution systems beneath the campus, Utility Distribution provides cost-effective, reliable, and resilient services that power the University's academic and research excellence.
If you are passionate about energy, innovation, and resiliency, come lead a team that keeps Mizzou running - and thriving.
The Director of Campus Facilities - Energy Management will plan and direct the financial, operational, maintenance, engineering, repair and renovation, expansion, and personnel activities for the Energy Management department within Campus Facilities.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide direct leadership for the operation, maintenance, construction, and engineering of MU's utility system, comprised of the steam, electric, domestic water, and chilled water production systems, storm and sanitary sewer systems, and the associated distribution infrastructure of the MU campus.

• Direct campus mapping and utility data services utilizing Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and other data management systems for mapping utilities, buildings, roads, sewer systems, landscape, and other facilities.
• Procure and manage natural gas supply contracts for on and off campus facilities, such as: MU Healthcare, Athletics, and Student Auxiliaries.
• Develop and oversee innovative approaches to plant fuel and purchased utilities contracts to reduce costs and enhance resiliency. Opportunities include:
• Wholesale electricity purchasing within the MISO (Mid-Continent System Operator) grid
• Forward purchasing hedging of natural gas
• Long-term plant solid fuel procurement (biomass and coal)
• Renewable energy power purchase agreements
• Direct environmental compliance and reporting to meet local, state, and federal requirements.

• Guide the preparation of product or equipment specifications and performance requirements.
• Maintain accurate metering for all utility systems for all campus buildings.
