The Energy Trading Analyst is responsible for various ISO bidding and operational functions associated with physical energy flows and optimizations across ISOs. This includes coordinating scheduling physical and financial energy products across ISO-NE. The Energy Trading Analyst will be responsible for price forecasting and physical bid/offer structures, as well as perform monitoring of energy markets and various front office analysis, evaluations, and reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and validate generation schedule by taking into consideration market information and transmission related constraints;
  • Submit and validate bids and schedules for all energy related products;
  • Coordinate and schedule all physical power, ancillary services, capacity, physical transmission with control areas or trading counterparts;
  • Under the direction of the Traders, perform energy optimization;
  • Keep track of trading positions, both financial and physical;
  • Assist with the validation of forward pricing, basis, and volatility curves;
  • Validate key market assumptions with market data and tracks project performance. Research and quantify deviations between forecast, budget and actual results;
  • Support data aggregation efforts each morning to implement approved trading strategies across the asset fleet;
  • Help with risk management associated with physical deliveries and transmission across various markets;
  • Responds to internal requests from other functions for data and analysis;
  • Develop expertise in Brookfieldโ€™s ETRM system, acting as a subject matter expert for the commercial team.
Qualifications
  • Strong team player with solid analytical skills with strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to make decisions involving varied levels of risk and ambiguity;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • Well organized and ability to synthesize and conceptualize complex ideas;
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated initiative;
  • Heightened interpersonal and influencing skills;
  • Able to meet multiple objectives in a dynamic, fast-paced, team environment.
Required Experience
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in engineering, economics, business, finance, information technology, or other relevant discipline;
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Python, VB, etc.) is preferred;
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel; knowledge of an ETRM system is an asset;
  • Knowledge of ISO market rules is preferred;
  • Knowledge of scheduling systems such as OASIS and OATI is preferred;
  • Knowledge of electric power generation and transmission systems.
