What is an endurance?

Endurance jobs refer to occupations or roles that require sustained physical or mental effort over long periods. These jobs often test a person's stamina, resilience, and ability to maintain performance under prolonged stress or fatigue. Examples include athletes in endurance sports, long-haul truck drivers, healthcare workers on extended shifts, and military personnel. Success in endurance jobs typically depends on training, proper nutrition, mental toughness, and effective rest strategies.

What are some common challenges faced by endurance coaches and how can they be addressed?

Endurance coaches often face the challenge of creating personalized training plans that accommodate varied athlete abilities, goals, and schedules. Balancing training intensity and recovery to prevent overtraining is crucial, as is staying current with the latest sports science research. Coaches also need strong communication skills to motivate athletes and adapt plans as needed. Building trust and fostering a supportive team environment can help address these challenges and lead to better athlete performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an endurance athlete, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Endurance Athlete, you need exceptional physical fitness, stamina, and knowledge of sports nutrition and training regimens, often supported by experience in long-distance events. Familiarity with heart rate monitors, GPS trackers, and sports performance software is common in this role. Mental resilience, discipline, and strong goal-setting abilities are standout soft skills for enduring challenging conditions. These skills and qualities are crucial for optimizing performance, preventing injury, and achieving long-term athletic success.

Job description

About Endurance
Endurance is building the world's first modular subsea geothermal power plants, converting vast thermal resources under the ocean into gigawatts of baseload power. Backed by Founders Fund, Felicis, First Round Capital, and Point72 Ventures, our founding team includes veterans from SpaceX, Helion, Blue Origin, and Apple. We have completed multiple deep-ocean deployments to subsea volcanoes and are launching a long-term demonstration project this fall. By leveraging modular design, manufacturing scale, efficient drilling, and latent cooling on the seafloor, we are pioneering a new category of energy that outperforms traditional sources on environmental impact, deployment speed, and cost.
What you'll be doing
As a Commercialization Lead at Endurance, you will shape commercial strategy, customer development, and deal execution across the Pacific Ocean, Endurance's target market, from the first power offtake agreements today to the bankable, multi-gigawatt project pipeline that defines the company's long term commercial trajectory.
You will be in the room with utility executives, hyperscaler infrastructure leaders, sovereign energy authorities, and defense program offices, structuring the deals that translate Endurance's technology into committed contracts, capital, and customers. In the near term, that means driving the commercial thread with hyperscaler partners on subsea pilots, structuring offtake and partnership terms for our first commercial projects, leading commercial work on the US federal lease and Program of Record path, and developing the partnership architecture for our Japan and broader Pacific opportunities.
You will be expected to operate with extreme ownership over Endurance's commercial outcomes. If a customer conversation stalls, a deal structure isn't penciling, a partnership is drifting, or a procurement window is closing, you are the person driving resolution.
At the same time, you will help build the commercial organization required to scale Endurance into a world-class energy company. This includes hiring and leading the power sales, offtake, partnerships, and commercial operations team, developing the bankability framework that every project opportunity is filtered against, establishing commercial standards and deal-review processes, and defining the eventual commercial architecture of a company selling firm clean power across the Pacific.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable structuring a power purchase agreement, negotiating a strategic partnership with a hyperscaler, briefing a sovereign energy minister, sitting through a DoD technical exchange, hiring senior commercial talent, and defining the commercial operating system of a future gigawatt-scale energy company.
You will work with the CEO and COO on the highest-leverage commercial conversations, and you will partner closely with the Head of Policy and External Affairs, who runs the regulatory and government relationship layer where commercial and policy work intersect.
Key Responsibilities
  • Commercial strategy and deal execution, from early offtake agreements to multi-gigawatt project structuring
  • Drive customer development with utilities, hyperscalers, sovereign authorities, and defense program offices across the Pacific region
  • Lead commercial structuring on US federal lease pursuits, Program of Record paths, and utility relationships in close partnership with Policy and External Affairs
  • Develop and own the bankability framework that every pipeline opportunity is filtered against
  • Build and maintain a high-quality commercial pipeline with disciplined qualification, sequencing, and forecasting
  • Partner closely with Policy and External Affairs on government and defense customers, splitting responsibility between the regulatory and commercial layers of each opportunity
  • Represent Endurance in executive-level customer conversations, technical and commercial workshops, and critical negotiations
  • Establish commercial standards, deal review processes, contract structures, and pipeline management systems
  • Build a culture of accountability, urgency, commercial discipline, and customer obsession across the commercial organization
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, operations, finance, and policy teams to ensure deals are technically credible, operationally deliverable, and financially structured for long-term value

Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in commercial development for large-scale FOAK energy infrastructure
  • Demonstrated track record closing multi-million-dollar deals
  • Experience selling or structuring PPAs and partnerships in energy, power, utilities, hyperscaler infrastructure, or defense markets
  • Strong technical fluency with the ability to hold credibility in rooms with engineers and scientists
  • Track record of building and leading exceptional commercial teams
  • Experience navigating long sales cycles with executive stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of energy or defense procurement cycles and capital flows
  • Willingness to travel internationally across the Pacific region when commercial relationships require it

Preferred Skills
  • Background in federal acquisitions, Program of Record pursuits, or DoD or DoE commercial pathways
  • Experience with hyperscaler partnership structures, data center development, or infrastructure colocation deals
  • Experience with sovereign or international commercial relationships across the Pacific region
  • Prior experience building a commercial organization from early-stage prototype to scaled commercial operations
  • Background in strategic partnership development at a deep-tech or hardware company
  • Strong understanding of the policy, regulatory, and permitting landscape that shapes large infrastructure deals
Compensation, Benefits, & Perks
As a pre-revenue startup, Endurance Energy offers competitive base salaries and generous equity packages for full-time employees. Final base salary will be determined by an array of factors including internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and work experience.
A key aspect of our compensation philosophy is that value creation should be aligned with rewards. Right now this means equity is a significant portion of every full-time employee's compensation. As the company matures, there will be continued evolution and changes to the total rewards and total compensation package. What will always be true is that if we win, we win together. Equity is granted to every full-time employee as a meaningful piece of ownership. We believe the people building the company should share directly in the value they create.
In addition to a competitive base salary and equity, employees will receive all of our other great benefits and perks, including:
  • Benefits: Health, Dental, and Vision insurance coverage
  • Time Away: Flexible PTO including 12 paid company holidays
  • Global Fieldwork: Travel to fascinating deployment sites along oceanic ridges in locations like the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, and the Azores
  • Hands-on Experience: Participate in sea trials and deployment operations in partnership with leading oceanographic institutions
  • Cutting-edge Development: Work with technology that spans high-power electronics, marine systems, and clean energy
  • Impactful Work: Help solve one of the world's most pressing challenges
  • Dive Certification: Company-sponsored recreational dive certification
  • Other Perks: Access to the company boat, free meals and snacks, and the list goes on!

If you're selected for consideration, a recruiter will be able to discuss in greater detail.
