Description
The University of Michigan School of Dentistry (Ann Arbor) invites qualified applications and nominations for the chair position in the Department of Cariology, Restorative Sciences and Endodontics.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an associate professor or professor on the tenure track to lead a vibrant, growing and well-established department with brand new clinical facilities. The department incorporates faculty members in the fields of restorative dentistry, endodontics and cariology research. The department chair is responsible for leading the department faculty members in support of the DDS program (didactic, pre-clinical and clinical); enhancing an outstanding graduate program in Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics; participation in PhD programs, continued development of cutting edge resources to enable high quality, rigorous scholarship of faculty, staff and trainees; and implementation of strategic plans to strengthen the academic and clinical missions through hiring and community building.
This large department is inclusive, diverse, creative, and dynamic with strong research and clinical faculty. Current research foci include programs in strategies for predictable caries prevention, digital dentistry and artificial intelligence in dental education, molecular mechanisms of cell proliferation, differentiation, survival as it relates to normal and aberrant tissue growth, and clinical research. There is a long history of collaborative multidisciplinary research and many faculty hold joint appointments within the university; i.e., Medical School and College of Engineering.
The responsibilities of the chair include accomplishing the priorities set by the school on the basis of our strategic plan. The department chair has responsibility for the overall administration and leadership of the academic department including planning and goal setting, financial stewardship, faculty development, oversight of graduate and DDS educational programs, and support of school and university service missions.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a DDS, DMD, and/or a PhD or equivalent doctoral degrees. Top candidates will have an international reputation as a scholar with outstanding and innovative research accomplishments, leadership experience, knowledge of key aspects of education in modern academic dentistry, and strong contributions in fostering inclusion, diversity and equity to enhance excellence in academic endeavors.
