What is an EMT Security Guard?

EMT Security Guards are professionals who combine emergency medical training (EMT) with security responsibilities. They are trained to respond to medical emergencies while also performing standard security duties, such as monitoring premises and ensuring the safety of people and property. EMT Security Guards are often employed at venues, hospitals, or large events where both medical emergencies and security issues may arise. Their dual skill set allows them to provide immediate medical assistance until paramedics arrive, making them valuable in high-risk or crowded environments.

How do EMT Security Guards balance emergency medical responsibilities with security duties during a shift?

EMT Security Guards are trained to handle both security protocols and provide emergency medical care, which means they must quickly switch between roles as situations demand. On a typical shift, they monitor premises for safety concerns, respond to incidents, and remain alert for medical emergencies. The challenge lies in prioritizing tasks—when a medical emergency arises, EMT Security Guards are expected to respond immediately, while also ensuring the overall security of the environment. Effective communication with team members and clear protocols help them manage both responsibilities efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EMT Security Guard?

To thrive as an EMT Security Guard, you need certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), a solid understanding of emergency response procedures, and training in security operations. Familiarity with first aid equipment, communication devices, and security monitoring systems is typically required. Strong situational awareness, calm decision-making under pressure, and effective interpersonal skills help you manage emergencies and interact with the public. These skills are vital for ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of individuals in high-risk environments.

Job description

Armed Residential Security Agent - Job Posting
Job Title: Armed Residential Security Agent (RST) Location: Los Angeles, California Employment Type: Full-Time | Part-Time Available Compensation: $33.00 - $36.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
About the Opportunity
We are seeking highly skilled, disciplined, and professional Armed Residential Security Agents to join our established Residential Security Team (RST). This is a demanding, client-facing role that requires the highest levels of integrity, discretion, and situational awareness. Selected candidates will be embedded at a private high-net-worth residence, working as part of a cohesive security team to provide continuous, around-the-clock protection for the principal and their family.
This position is ideal for candidates with a background in residential security, executive protection, law enforcement, or military service who are ready to bring their expertise to a premier private security environment. Candidates must be self-motivated, physically fit, and capable of operating with sound judgment in dynamic and high-pressure situations.
Core Responsibilities
As an Armed Residential Security Agent, you will serve as a critical line of defense for the principal's residence and household. Your primary duty is to ensure the safety, security, and privacy of the client and their family at all times. You will conduct regular interior and exterior patrols, monitor CCTV and access control systems, and maintain a detailed activity log for all shift handovers in accordance with established Post Orders and Standard Operating Procedures.
You will control and verify access to the residence, screening all visitors, vendors, contractors, and service personnel before granting entry. In the event of a security anomaly, intrusion, or emergency - including medical, fire, or law enforcement situations - you will act as the first responder, coordinating with emergency services and the broader security team as required. You will also support the safe arrival and departure of the principal and family members, maintaining a low-profile, professional presence at all times.
Accurate and thorough documentation is a core expectation of this role. You will prepare detailed incident reports, maintain shift logs, and communicate all relevant information to incoming team members during handovers. Strict confidentiality regarding the client's personal life, routines, and household operations is non-negotiable.
Required Licenses & Credentials
All candidates must possess and maintain the following active, valid California credentials at the time of application. Candidates who do not hold all three credentials will not be considered.

A minimum of 2 years of verifiable, paid experience in residential security is required. This experience must demonstrate direct involvement in protecting a private residence, high-net-worth household, or comparable principal protection environment. Experience in executive protection, law enforcement, or military service in a protective capacity will also be considered, provided it is directly relevant to residential security operations.
Candidates must hold a valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record, as driving assignments may be required. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interact with clients, guests, and staff in a courteous, professional, and service-oriented manner. The ability to de-escalate tense situations calmly and effectively is a key competency for this role.
This position requires physical stamina. Agents must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods, conducting thorough foot patrols, and responding rapidly and decisively to emergencies. Candidates must be available to work 8- to 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as the security program operates on a 24/7/365 basis.
All candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation, including criminal history, civil records, employment verification, social media review, and a motor vehicle report (MVR). A pre-employment drug screening is also required.
Preferred Qualifications
While not mandatory, the following qualifications are strongly preferred and will be weighted favorably during the selection process. Prior experience protecting high-profile individuals, celebrities, or ultra-high-net-worth families is a significant advantage. Advanced medical training - such as EMT certification, Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), or First Responder certification - is highly valued, as is current CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
Candidates with prior military service in a combat or special operations capacity, or former law enforcement officers with demonstrated leadership experience, are encouraged to apply.
