Salary Range $27.00 - $27.00 Hourly

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) position at Gilroy Gardens is an integral part of the Safety and First Aid Department. Applicants must have at minimum their CA EMT Certification and BLS/CPR certification. Working out of the First Aid locations in park, EMTs are responsible for BLS care of park guests and employees, as well as detailed record keeping. Must be 18+ years old to apply.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Performs basic ergonomics for seasonal and full-time employees that requires demonstrating lifting techniques, bending, squatting and twisting methods. Must also be able to evaluate previous medical history and show how it may relate to the job.

2. Completes seasonal and full-time medical record cards, as well as update this information throughout the year.

3. Completes the Daily Visitors Log and First Aid Injury Reports that requires some verbal communication with park guests and employees. Depending on the nature of the injury, this position must be able to type state-approved OSHA reports and set-up the necessary logs for insurance purposes.

4. Will document communication with injured guests and employees and forward document to the registered nurse for response.

5. Will function in the treatment room and in the ward, as required, and perform all duties as assigned by the First Aid Manager of his/her designate.

6. Will be required to change soiled bedding and replace with fresh linens.

7. Will perform light cleaning maintenance for the restrooms, treatment area and reception area as needed.

8. Will periodically inventory First Aid supplies and forward information to the Registered Nurse.

9. Will be required to use in-park radio equipment for communication purposes.

10. Will confer with RN on proposed treatment for injured guests and/or employees.

11. Required to climb stairs, catwalks and ladders as necessary in emergency situations.

12. Required to drive the in-park ambulance and First Aid automobile

13. Will be required to perform emergency CPR and keep state certificate current

14. Required to work with the following emergency equipment; oxygen, gurney, backboards, splints, suction, etc.

15. Required to follow CDC (Center for Disease Control) requirements with respect to blood-born pathogens (gloves, masks and gown use).

16. Perform all job duties in a safe/responsible manner

17. Perform other duties as assigned

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

1. High school graduate, GED or equivalent

2. Must possess a current county issued EMT certificate

3. Must possess a current CPR certificate issued by a recognized medical agency: Red Cross or American Heart Association preferred.

4. Must possess a valid California Drivers License (class 3)

5. Must be experienced with Oxygen dispersing equipment

6. Must be experienced with medical documentation and general industry recording procedures

7. Experience with patient interviewing techniques

8. Must have good communication skills

9. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and schedule form.

10. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests, and other employees of the organization

11. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate and percent.

12. Ability to solve practical problems and effectively deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

13. Must have reliable transportation

14. Must have full availability including weekends and holidays

15. Must have the following abilities to satisfactorily perform the Essential Job Functions:

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.

· Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. Carrying, pushing, pulling, lifting, gripping, grasping, and holding objects

· Frequent standing, awkward positions, loud noise, twisting, slippery/wet floors; moderate heat and humidity

· Moderate sitting, bending, kneeling, and reaching above shoulders; contact with abrasive/sharp objects, extreme cold, dust, fumes, sprays; contact with skin irritants, toxic exposure.

· Following written and oral instructions

· Strong verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills

· Organizing and prioritizing to meet deadlines.

· Ability to effectively communicate to and to motivate large groups of people
