Emt Contracts information

What are EMT contracts?

EMT contracts are agreements between Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and employers such as ambulance services, hospitals, or government agencies. These contracts outline the terms of employment, including job responsibilities, work schedules, compensation, and benefits. EMT contracts may also include clauses regarding confidentiality, training requirements, and the duration of employment. Understanding the specifics of an EMT contract is important for ensuring fair working conditions and clear expectations between both parties.

What are some common challenges EMTs may face when working under contract, and how can they prepare for them?

EMTs working under contract often encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to new team dynamics, varying shift schedules, and unfamiliar protocols at different locations. Contract roles can also require EMTs to be particularly flexible and proactive in communication since they may frequently work with new supervisors or partners. To prepare, EMTs should focus on maintaining strong foundational skills, staying up-to-date with certifications, and building adaptability by seeking out diverse clinical experiences. Networking with peers in similar roles and staying organized with documentation can also ease transitions between assignments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EMT in contracts, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EMT in contract positions, you need strong emergency medical skills, knowledge of pre-hospital care, and a valid EMT certification or license. Familiarity with ambulance equipment, patient transport protocols, and electronic patient care reporting systems is typically required. Exceptional communication, stress management, and teamwork skills help EMTs adapt quickly to varied environments and patient needs. These competencies ensure rapid, effective response and high-quality care in diverse, often unpredictable contract settings.

What is the difference between Emt Contracts vs Paramedics?

Employer & IndustryEMS agencies, hospitals, private servicesEMS agencies, hospitals, fire departments

EMT Contracts typically refer to employment agreements for Emergency Medical Technicians, who provide basic emergency medical care. Paramedics have advanced training and certifications, allowing them to perform more complex procedures. While both roles work in similar environments and industries, paramedics generally have higher qualifications and responsibilities. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job opportunity in emergency medical services.

Job description

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Summit Solutions Group (SSG) provides mission-critical support for federal training environments where safety, readiness, and operational excellence matter most. As the mission support arm of the Summit Point Training Facility, SSG delivers specialized services that help ensure complex government training operations run safely and effectively. SSG is proud to support the Training Operational Medicine FASTC Emergency Services Contract in Blackstone, VA, delivering trusted on-site emergency medical and response services in support of critical federal training missions.

Join a mission-driven team supporting critical federal training operations where emergency readiness and rapid response matter. Work alongside experienced Fire & EMS professionals in a collaborative environment focused on safety, teamwork, and operational excellence. Keep your skills sharp through ongoing training, real-world response, and maintaining a high level of operational readiness. Support unique, fast-paced training environments that challenge you to adapt, problem-solve, and make a meaningful impact. Enjoy opportunities for professional growth, development, competitive pay, and benefits.

As an EMT, you will provide emergency medical care, standby coverage, and operational support in fast-paced training and operational environments. This role supports the safety and readiness of federal training missions by responding to medical emergencies, providing Basic Life Support (BLS) care, supporting emergency response efforts, and maintaining operational readiness in complex training settings.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver Basic Life Support (BLS) care in accordance with Virginia EMS protocols and within the scope of EMT certification.
  • Assess, treat, and provide continuing emergency care to ill or injured patients, including patient assessment, CPR, bleeding control, splinting, immobilization, oxygen administration, and other approved BLS interventions.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide emergency standby support during training and operational activities.
  • Conduct daily readiness inspections of ambulances, medical equipment, emergency response gear, and supplies to ensure operational preparedness.
  • Operate ambulances and emergency response vehicles safely in emergency and non-emergency situations across training environments and public roadways.
  • Coordinate effectively with EMS, fire, and emergency response personnel to deliver safe, high-quality patient care and emergency scene support.
  • Support emergency evacuations, including assisting with patient movement and landing zone coordination when needed.
  • Complete accurate, thorough patient care reports, run sheets, and required documentation.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, coworkers, and over radio systems in high-tempo environments.
  • Maintain all required certifications, competencies, continuing education, and ongoing training requirements for the role.

This position is covered under the Service Contract Act (SCA). Compensation will be provided in accordance with the applicable SCA wage determination, including the required Health & Welfare (H&W) fringe benefit. Summit Point also offers a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, a 401(k) with company match, paid time off, paid holidays, and other employee benefits.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of EMT experience.
  • Current Virginia EMT certification, valid and current.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
  • Current Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) Level 2 certification or equivalent approved course.
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications.
  • Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) consistent with company policy.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain HSPD-12 badge/access credentials for federal facility access.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screening.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience supporting standby EMS coverage for training operations, ranges, or specialized environments.
  • Previous experience supporting federal, government, military, law enforcement, or training environments.
  • Previous experience working in high-tempo, mission-critical, or multi-agency response environments.

This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work in dynamic training and operational environments. Duties involve prolonged standing, walking, running, climbing, kneeling, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment or patients, including heavy lifting with assistance when necessary.

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve responding across varied terrain and environments, including training facilities, ranges, tactical areas, roadways, and emergency response scenes. Employees must be able to safely operate emergency vehicles and equipment and respond effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure situations, with or without reasonable accommodation.

This role may involve exposure to loud noises, adverse weather conditions, moving vehicles, bodily fluids, firearms training environments, and other operational hazards associated with emergency response and federal training activities.

Schedules may include rotating shifts, extended hours, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency response coverage based on operational needs.
