Please see the information about the position, the duties and responsibilities, the minimum and desirable qualifications, and the job application attachments below: Position Title: Instructor, CC (Emergency Medical Services) Position Number: 0086649 Hiring Unit: Emergency Medical Services Rank: C2 Date Posted: July 10, 2026 Closing Date: August 9, 2026, 11:59 PM HST Monthly Type: 11 Month Tenure Track: Tenure Full Time/Part Time: Full Time Temporary/Permanent: Permanent Funding: General Other Conditions: Position will be employed by Kapi'olani Community College, but physically located at the Hawai'i Community College campus on the island of Hawai'i. Contingent on course offerings and student demand, to begin approximately Fall 2026, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements.
The position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs Duties and Responsibilities: Under general supervision, coordinate and deliver instruction in Emergency Medical Services in terms of student learning outcomes; develop and/or update course content and materials and teaching and assessment strategies and methods to (1) improve learning outcomes; (2) address the learning needs of the College's diverse students; (3) integrate thinking and writing skills into course content where appropriate; (4) use multi-media resources, including computers, where appropriate. Perform other teaching-related duties that include, but are not limited to, preparing course syllabi and maintaining office hours for academic advising and for conferring with students about course work (one hour per week per three-credit course). Regular workload may include evening and weekend classes, continuing education classes, distance education classes, and teaching at off-campus sites to include the neighbor islands.
Non-teaching duties include (1) working collegially to provide service to the Department and College and (2) engaging in public service related to one's professional status and/or expertise; and in professional development and professional or scholarly activities related to one's discipline or teaching. Minimum Qualifications: Master's in Health Sciences, Biological Sciences, Nursing or EMS AND current EMT-P certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and current Hawai'i certification as a MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawai'i State license as an RN ; OR Bachelor's in Health Sciences, Biological Sciences, Nursing or EMS AND three (3) years related work experience which should include postsecondary teaching; at least one of the three years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience; AND current EMT-P certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and current Hawai'i certification as a MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawai'i State license as an RN; OR Certification as a Paramedic; AND a Baccalaureate degree in any field AND five (5) years related work experience which should include postsecondary teaching; at least 2 of the 5 years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience AND current EMT-P certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, AND current Hawai'i certification as a MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawai'i State license as an RN; OR Associate Degree in MICT AND ten (10) years related work experience which should include postsecondary teaching; at least three (3) of the ten (10) years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience AND current EMT-P certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and current Hawai'i certification as a MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawai'i State license as an RN; OR Medical Doctor AND current Hawaii license as an M.D.; current ACLS instructor certification; board eligible, or board certified in emergency medicine. Note: If qualified applicants (those meeting MQs) are not available, others may be considered for appointment as Acting Instructor
Desirable Qualifications: Successful community college/university-level teaching as substantiated by student and peer assessments; Evidence of ability to work in a collegial manner with peers, department chairs, and administrators; Evidence of experience integrating writing, technology, and thinking skills in the teaching of EMS courses; Ability to write clear prose as substantiated by materials submitted by applicant; Successful use of technology to support instruction inside and outside of the traditional classroom; Commitment to the mission and values of the community college with its open-door and multicultural populations; Ability to initiate, execute, and complete projects, including setting specific objectives and measuring results. Evidence of commitment to Kapi'olani Community College's vision of positioning itself as a model indigenous serving institution whose graduates strengthen the social, economic, and sustainable advancement of Hawai'i and the world.
