Job description

If you are an engineering professional looking to grow your impact while working on critical infrastructure, we invite you to join our Power & Water Solutions team as a Controls Engineering professional based in Detroit, MI.

 In this role, you will contribute to the delivery of automation and control solutions that support domestic water, wastewater, and power generation facilities across North America. You will work on projects that modernize existing systems, improve reliability, and promote long-term sustainability of essential infrastructure.

 
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Lead application design and engineering execution for water and power automation projects
  • Develop, manage, and track project engineering plans to ensure on-time delivery of requirements
  • Estimate, plan, and communicate project resource needs proactively
  • Provide technical leadership and collaborate cross-functionally to deliver customer-focused solutions
  • Apply Emerson engineering procedures and support quality and safety objectives
  • Engage directly with customers on technical and commercial topics while building trusted relationships
  • Partner with the Emerson Operations Group to support hardware design, procurement, and project progress
  • Monitor customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle and deliver consistent, high-quality results
  • Optimize the use of global engineering resources to support departmental goals
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes and implement continuous improvements
  • Monitor project financial performance in alignment with department objectives
  • Mentor and support the development of fellow engineers and contribute to strong, collaborative teams
  • Provide technical support for project pursuits, marketing efforts, and lifecycle services as needed
  • Participate in domain expert teams to advance technical knowledge and best practices
Who You Are:

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, technical discipline, or equivalent
  •  Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience, preferably in water or wastewater industry
  • Experience designing, implementing, or supporting control systems using Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and/or Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) platforms
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary project teams involving engineering, project management, and field service
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex technical challenges and develop practical solutions 
  • Proficiency with standard engineering tools, documentation practices, and project tracking methods
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements

 
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering
  • 7 or more years of relevant engineering experience
  • Experience supporting automation projects within the water and wastewater industry
  • Familiarity with a range of automation platforms and control system architectures, including Emerson technologies
  • Experience collaborating across disciplines such as engineering, operations, and project management
