Certifications like CPR and BLS are common to both, but EMTs require specific state certification. Their work environments differ mainly between hospital and field settings.

How hard is it to become an emergency room technician?

Becoming an emergency room technician typically requires completing a post-secondary certificate or diploma program in emergency medical technology or a related field, which can take several months to a year. The job can be physically and emotionally demanding, but the educational requirements are generally accessible for those interested in healthcare support roles.
