Job Description:
Job Summary: The Emergency Medical Tech I performs various technical duties and tasks which include assisting with direct and indirect treatment and care of patients.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
  1. Performs EKGs, venipuncture (not applicable to the Emergency Department), IV skills, and bedside testing.
  2. Provides emergency first aid treatment.
  3. Responds to medical emergencies.
  4. Performs basic patient care with consideration for age and developmental stage.
  5. Transports patients by wheelchair or stretcher.
  6. Notifies nurse of abnormal findings or changes in patient status.
  7. Performs clerical functions.
  8. Accesses and navigates through Epic.
  9. Job description is not an all-inclusive list of duties and may be subject to change with or without notice. Staff are expected to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of the Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B TX) or Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P) curriculum as defined by the State of Texas.
  • State Registration as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B TX) or Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P).
  • Current JPS-recognized BLS certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • 4779 EMT I: 0 -1.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4780 EMT II: 2-4.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4781 EMT III: 5-9.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4782 EMT IV: 10+ years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Level 1 EKG Competency (subsequent to hire).
