Job description

Inova Ashburn Healthplex is looking for a dedicated Emergency Medical Technician to join the team in our Emergency Department. This role will be full time, 7am-7pm & 11am - 11pm. Three 12-hours shifts per week (days vary); Candidates must be available to work any day of the week when scheduled. Candidates must be able to attend a paid 6 week training period

Emergency Medical Technician 2 Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates correct stabilization and immobilization of spine and proper fitting of splints for extremities; Demonstrates ability to assess neurovascular status after splint application and reports deviations to Registered Nurse and physician.
  • Assists with patient transport for testing, admission/discharge, interfacility and aeromedical (per policy of Operating Unit); Arranges interfacility transport from freestanding Emergency departments.
  • Collects patient specimens following department/facility policies and procedures; Assists mid-level providers and physicians with collecting, labeling and transporting irretrievable specimens.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment; Coordinates with materials management to ensure appropriate stock and minimize outdated stock.
  • Obtains 12 lead ECG per physician order and provides ECG to physician for review immediately upon completion.
  • Reviews Medical Director orders as related to disease state; Monitors and reports patients' progress towards expected outcomes and deviations to Registered Nurse.
  • Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards and acts as a resource to physicians and nurses to provide patients with optimum care.

Training:  Must be available for six (6) weeks of paid training, consisting of,

  • Virtual modules
  • Classroom-style sessions: 8AM - 4:30PM
  • On-unit training with department hired into (times TBD)


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: 1 year of EMT-B experience
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Certification: 
    • BLS from American Heart Association
    •  EMT-B; must either be active on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or possess a current Virginia EMT License/Certification
  • Special Skills: Able to read, write, speak and understand English. Computer skills.
