Responsibilities:  


Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, MN is a regional Level I adult and pediatric trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, and internationally renowned quaternary referral center, in addition to serving adult, pediatric and geriatric patients from SE Minnesota and surrounding states.  The Saint Marys Campus Emergency Department (ED) has ~ 85,000 visits annually and an admission rate of ~ 30%. Patients are of high complexity and acuity. The regional EDs see over 320,000 visits annually. Saint Marys Campus has 140 adult intensive care unit (ICU) beds for cardiology, surgery, trauma, medical, and neurology patients.  This 1.0 FTE overnight pharmacist will support the ED and ICUs at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus in Rochester, MN. The position is structured to function within a team of four overnight ED/ICU pharmacists, in a q4weekend or q3weekend rotational model depending on staffing and patient care needs. The 7 overnights Monday through Sunday (70 hours) are paid as 80 hours. When not doing overnights the pharmacist will rotate between the ED and ICUs. 

Job responsibilities for ED / ICU pharmacists include providing quality, comprehensive bedside patient care as part of a multidisciplinary team, and response to house-wide medical codes. Clinical services consist of direct patient care at the bedside, recommendations regarding drug therapy, and identification of drug-related problems. Situational awareness and task prioritization in the ED are enhanced through electronic automated alerts for resuscitations (e.g. trauma, medical, stroke, STEMI, toxicology, procedural sedation, intubation). Active participation in medical decision-making is expected, valued, and carried out through a progressive collaborative practice agreements in the ED and ICUs. Pharmacists partake in medication ordering and drug preparation in emergent situations to facilitate patient care. Clinical consultations and participation in resuscitations through emergency telepharmacy and telemedicine services support ED providers in the regional health care system. Providing didactic lectures, simulation training and orientation for ED and ICU multidisciplinary team members is expected, as is precepting of pharmacy students, PGY1, and PGY2 EM and critical care specialty learners. 

Academic appointment and progression through academic rank, involvement in scholarly activities including quality initiatives, and multidisciplinary research are encouraged and supported through extensive institutional and departmental resources.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program OR Bachelor of Science (B.S.) AND a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Previous experience including specialty residency training in emergency medicine or critical care with substantial emergency medicine experience, and/or equivalent experience of 3-5 years in practice
  • Board Certification in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care within 12-months of candidate's eligibility is not already present
  • Evidence of ongoing scholarly pursuits including research/quality improvement, publications, or scientific presentations in emergency medicine or critical care
  • Relevant applicable pharmacy experience working in a progressive and collaborative practice environment
  • Experience and/or interest in teaching and/or precepting


Additional Qualifications: 

  • Commitment to excellence, accuracy, attention to detail and teamwork required. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively with others, organizes time well, practice with an agile mindset, solve problems, and work independently with minimal supervision required.


License and Certification:

  • License to practice Pharmacy in the State of Minnesota, or eligibility for licensure within 60-days of start date
  • May not independently fulfill responsibilities reserved only to a pharmacist until license is obtained.
