Job description

Outpatient Diagnostic CoderAn experienced Outpatient Diagnostic Coder is sought to support a Hospital Billing (HB) outpatient coding team. This position focuses on diagnostic coding within an acute care hospital environment, including imaging, therapy services, and select outpatient procedural areas. The ideal candidate will have previous hospital outpatient coding experience and be comfortable coding a variety of outpatient encounters with minimal training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient hospital services.
  • Code diagnostic imaging encounters including X-rays, MRI, CT, and biopsy-related services.
  • Review and code therapy-related encounters including Physical Therapy (PT), Speech Therapy, Infusion Services, and Radiation Oncology.
  • Support coding for Same-Day Surgery, Observation Services, Emergency Department (ED) visits, wound care, and Interventional Radiology (IR).
  • Maintain coding accuracy and productivity standards, with a target of 25 charts per hour for diagnostic and therapy coding.
  • Collaborate with coding leadership and participate in quality review processes as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum one year of hospital outpatient (acute care) coding experience.
  • Experience coding in a Hospital Billing (HB)/facility setting.
  • Active coding certification (AHIMA certifications are preferred; relevant AAPC certifications will be considered).
  • Ability to work independently and align with EST business hours.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred certifications include CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA.
  • Experience with Epic systems is preferred.
