This position will assist patrons of the Marriott Library with services offered by Creativity & Innovation Services (CrIS). The successful candidate will be patron-focused, acting as a first point of contact between 3D printing and scanning services, virtual reality and gaming, audio and video recording, sewing and soft-goods fabrication. On-the-job training will familiarize applicants with the Library's 3D printing, 3D scanning, sewing and small scale fabrication tools, virtual reality equipment, and media studios.
For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception is granted.
Responsibilities
  • Provide consultations for students, faculty, and staff on projects utilizing ProtoSpace resources.
  • Provide support for users with the sewing, embroidery, sergers, and other small scale fabrication resources.
  • Develop familiarity with broader library offerings and work alongside project collaborators to meet varied research needs.
  • Collaborate with the team to create and deliver learning content in a variety of formats including in-person and video.
Minimum Qualifications Preferences
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and develop processes related to the use of technology.
  • Familiarity with ProtoSpace equipment, services, and resources.
  • Engaged and curious about a wide breadth of topics including but not limited to: rapid prototyping, sewing, digital design, multimedia production, puppetry, software development, electronic music composition, and/or teaching and learning technology.
  • Strong communication ability and willingness to speak with a wide variety of patrons.
  • Current University of Utah student enrolled in at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.
