How much do embedded systems engineer jobs pay per year?
What Do Embedded Systems Engineers Do?
An embedded systems engineer creates the software to control electronics or machines that are different from regular computers. This software needs to run on the specific hardware it controls. Their duties also include troubleshooting and testing. Essential skills include problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication. Work is typically in an office environment with full-time business hours. Educational qualifications include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in embedded systems engineering or a related field.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Embedded Systems Engineer, and why are they important?

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?
What is the difference between Embedded Systems Engineer vs Firmware Engineer?
| Aspect | Embedded Systems Engineer | Firmware Engineer |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields; certifications like Certified Embedded Systems Engineer | Bachelor's in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering; certifications like Certified Firmware Engineer |
| Work Environment | Designing and developing embedded hardware/software for devices like automotive, medical, consumer electronics | Writing low-level code to optimize firmware for microcontrollers and embedded devices |
| Industry Usage | Used across automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, industrial automation | Primarily in consumer electronics, IoT devices, and embedded hardware products |
Both roles focus on embedded development but differ in scope. Embedded Systems Engineers work on both hardware and software integration, while Firmware Engineers specialize in writing low-level code for device firmware. Understanding these distinctions helps in choosing the right career path or job search focus.

TITLE : Senior System Validation Engineer
DUTIES:
Validating complex embedded software interactions spanning propulsion, ADAS/AD, body, infotainment, and connected services. Lead integration and validation of embedded software at the component, subsystem, and full system levels, ensuring seamless interaction between AUTOSAR based basic software, middleware, platform services, and domain feature applications. Perform detailed interface verification, including CAN/CAN FD signal validation, communication matrix alignment, diagnostic service testing (UDS/DoIP), and cross domain communication analysis. Integrate AUTOSAR Classic and Adaptive components, validate RTE behavior, configure BSW modules, and verify service-oriented communication paths. Develop and execute comprehensive test strategies and test cases covering functional, regression, performance, robustness, and interface level testing. Conduct hands on testing using.
HIL and SIL platforms, including dSPACE Scalexio, dSPACE ControlDesk, Vector VT System, and virtualized SIL environments. Analyze logs, traces, and failure modes using Vector CANoe/CANalyzer, Trace32, and other debugging tools to identify root causes and verify corrective actions. Collaborate closely with platform software teams, application developers, systems engineers, and Tier 1 suppliers to resolve integration issues and ensure software maturity. Support board bring up activities, including hardware interface validation, peripheral configuration, bootloader testing, and low-level software debugging. Test Automation & Tooling Work: Build and maintain automated test suites using Python, including custom libraries for communication, diagnostics, and interface validation. Develop automated workflows using the Robot Framework, enabling scalable, modular, and reusable test execution across multiple domains. Create and execute automated test sequences in ECU Test, integrating test cases with CANoe, dSPACE, and other bench/HIL systems. Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to improve coverage, repeatability, and execution efficiency. Enhance automation frameworks to support new communication protocols, diagnostic routines, and cross domain software interactions.
