ACV is seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer I to support our next-generation products and inspection platform. In this role, you'll serve as the electrical and firmware lead at the point of deployment—ensuring our embedded systems are configured, tested, and fully operational in live dealership environments.

You'll work cross-functionally with our mechanical, software, and product teams to iterate on hardware performance, debug field issues, and improve reliability and scale-readiness. This is a hands-on, field-integrated engineering role ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of design, deployment, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate for this role would be a skilled technical professional with a strong background in developing and configuring testing solutions across product phases. They should be able to work closely with customers, vendors, and third-party partners, serving as a technical liaison to ensure smooth communication.

What you will do:

  • Customer Support: Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and firmware-related issues in the field, acting as a technical liaison between dealerships and engineering teams.
  • Process Improvements: Refine embedded development, testing, and debugging processes to improve hardware reliability, reduce deployment time, and support scale.
  • Documentation: Own and maintain embedded system documentation, including schematics, firmware workflows, and hardware interface guides for internal and external teams.
  • Installation & Product Logistics: Ensure embedded hardware is properly configured, flashed, and validated during installation, and support logistics for electronics-related components.
  • Product Testing, Debugging, and Experimentation: Design and execute firmware tests, perform low-level debugging, unit tests, and prototype hardware changes to improve product performance in the field.
  • Support Broader Engineering Teams: Partner with mechanical, software, and product engineers to align embedded features and interfaces with evolving system requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

What you will need:

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer science, Computer Engineering, or related experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with external vendors and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in Python and C for embedded software development.
  • Experience with Linux driver development is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with embedded systems testing and debugging tools.
  • Computer Skills: Expertise in operating systems, software installation, and image burning.
  • Strong understanding of embedded hardware and software integration.
  • Knowledge of deployment architecture principles and system design considerations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with defining and implementing quality process improvement methodologies. Quality certifications are a plus.
  • In-depth understanding of operational workflows and consumer needs.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects while contributing to a team-oriented environment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage with cross-functional teams.
  • Up to 50% travel and estimated to have an average duration of less than one week.
