We are seeking a motivated Co-op Student in QA Testing to support our datalogger product line. This role is ideal for a student interested in hands-on experience with embedded systems, telemetry, and cloud integration. You will be directly involved in testing both firmware and end-to-end system performance across multiple telemetry paths, including integration with our AWS cloud environment.
This position will last from August 31, 2026 - December 31, 2026.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the writing, execution, and documentation of QA test cases.
  • Update and maintain test scripts to reflect evolving requirements.
  • Conduct manual testing on datalogger firmware and hardware.
  • Perform end-to-end validation and verification testing, including telemetry paths:
    • GOES
    • IRIDIUM
    • Cellular
    • Radio
    • AWS Cloud integration (via MQTT, MQTT-SN, and brokers/topics)
  • Test data flow from dataloggers through telemetry links into AWS cloud services.
  • Record, track, and report test results, issues, and bugs using established tools.
  • Collaborate with firmware, hardware, and cloud engineering teams to ensure overall system quality and reliability.

Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related program.
  • Familiarity with QA processes, test scripting, and documentation.
  • Interest in embedded systems, telemetry communications, and cloud platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Experience to be Gained:
  • Hands-on experience testing real-world environmental monitoring technology.
  • Practical skills in QA methodologies, embedded firmware testing, and AWS cloud integration.
  • Exposure to brokers, topics, MQTT/MQTT-SN communication flows, and cloud-based data pipelines.

Additional Information:
  • This is an on-site opportunity that must be performed in Victoria, British Columbia.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization. F-1 visa holders with Optional Practical Training (OPT) who will require H-1B status, TNs, or current H-1B visa holders will not be considered. H1-B and green card sponsorship is not available for this position.

Compensation Range: A reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position is $18.50-$24.00 CAD. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. AEM considers a wide range of factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education, licensure and certifications, key skills as well as other market and business considerations when extending an offer. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
