What does an embedded software verification engineer do?

An Embedded Software Verification Engineer is responsible for ensuring that embedded software systems function correctly and meet design requirements. They create and execute tests, analyze results, and identify software defects in embedded systems such as automotive controllers, medical devices, or consumer electronics. This role typically involves working closely with software developers and hardware engineers to review code, develop test plans, and use debugging tools to validate the software’s functionality, performance, and safety. Their work is crucial for delivering reliable products that operate safely and efficiently in real-world environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an embedded software verification engineer?

To thrive as an Embedded Software Verification Engineer, a strong background in embedded systems, programming (C/C++), and software testing methodologies is essential, typically supported by a degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, debuggers, oscilloscopes, and verification frameworks, as well as certifications like ISTQB, are commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help engineers identify issues and work collaboratively in cross-functional teams. These skills ensure the development of reliable, safe, and high-quality embedded systems in safety-critical industries.

What are some common challenges faced by embedded software verification engineers during the validation process?

Embedded Software Verification Engineers often encounter challenges such as limited hardware availability, rapidly changing requirements, and integration issues with multiple hardware and software components. Debugging in an embedded environment can be more complex due to constrained system resources and limited visibility into the hardware-software interactions. Collaborating closely with both hardware and firmware teams is essential to quickly identify and resolve defects, making strong communication and problem-solving skills crucial for success in this role.

SOVOS Senior Embedded ISV Sales Engineer

Sales Engineering·Full-Time·Netherlands

Build Your Future With Us

The digitization of tax compliance is fundamentally changing global commerce and how businesses need to operate and grow. Governments now have real-time visibility into business data, creating new challenges and new opportunities for organizations around the world. At Sovos, we're transforming tax compliance from a business requirement into a driver of growth through AI-powered technology that delivers the accurate, real-time insights businesses need to make smarter decisions.

We're solving more than today's tax compliance challenges. We're helping reshape global economies by enabling organizations to navigate increasingly complex and rapidly changing regulatory environments with confidence – and helping communities thrive.

AI is accelerating what's possible, enabling tax and technology professionals to more effectively drive critical regulatory decisions. That's where Sovos excels, combining intelligent technology with human expertise to help customers stay ahead of change.

The Role

The Role

At Sovos, we're building the future of embedded compliance through partnerships with Independent Software Vendors and Business Process Outsourcers around the world. As a Senior Embedded ISV Sales Engineer, you'll serve as the technical bridge between our partner-facing sales team and our compliance platform, translating complex capabilities into solutions that partners can evaluate, integrate, and scale. This is a technical sales role that sits at the intersection of business development, solution architecture, and partner enablement, and you'll be part of a global team driving one of our most strategic initiatives.
Don't worry if you don't check all the boxes - apply anyway! We're focused on hiring the right people, not just the "right" resume. It's not about what you've done elsewhere; it's all about what you're capable of doing here.

More specifically, you will:

  • Partner directly with the Embedded ISV team across the full sales cycle, providing technical credibility and platform expertise from initial partner outreach through solution scoping, technical validation, and close.
  • Lead technical discovery with prospective ISV and BPO partners, understanding their platform architecture, integration approach, customer base, and compliance requirements, and translating findings into a technical fit assessment and proposed solution.
  • Deliver product demonstrations, technical presentations, and proof-of-concept support that show how Sovos' compliance APIs and platform embed into partner architectures.
  • Provide expert guidance on APIs, authentication, webhooks, data flows, deployment models, testing environments, SLAs, and platform architecture, leveraging AI tools where appropriate to improve partner enablement and streamline technical communication.
  • Maintain a working command of Sovos' compliance product suite, roadmap, and technical documentation sufficient to represent the platform credibly in both pre-sales and post-sales partner conversations.
  • Contribute to the development of technical sales assets, including demo environments, solution diagrams, integration FAQs, and technical qualification criteria, that scale the embedded partner motion.
  • Maintain accurate records of technical engagements, partner technical health, and open issues in CRM and partner tracking tools, in coordination with the sales team's opportunity and account plans.

What You Bring to Sovos

  • You have experience in sales engineering, solutions engineering, technical account management, or pre-sales/post-sales technical support, ideally supporting enterprise software, SaaS, or embedded/API-led partnerships.
  • You're comfortable engaging technical stakeholders such as architects, integration leads, and engineering managers, as well as commercial and product stakeholders, without requiring hands-on coding.
  • You have working knowledge of REST APIs, webhooks, authentication (OAuth, API keys), cloud architecture, and SaaS integration patterns, enough to evaluate technical fit and speak credibly with a partner's technical team. Comfort with AI-assisted workflows and tools is a plus.
  • You understand, or have a strong aptitude to learn, compliance business processes such as e-invoicing, e-reporting, tax determination, filings, certificate management, and identity verification.
  • You can translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-relevant language for both partner executives and internal sales teams, and you have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation, demo delivery, and partner-facing presentations.
  • You bring strong cross-functional collaboration skills, working closely with Sales, Solution Architecture, Product Management, Support, Professional Services, and Engineering, and you're comfortable operating across the full partner lifecycle.
  • You have a high ownership mindset, strong problem-solving instincts, sound judgement, and the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, matrixed environment. You're willing to travel for partner meetings, technical workshops, industry events, and internal planning sessions as needed.
  • Due to client contractual obligations, the successful candidate will be asked to clear a background check upon hire.
