As an Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead in the ASDS Engineering Execution organization, you will be responsible for the execution of all software discipline activities on the program.  The Software (SW) IPT Lead’s primary responsibilities include performing the Control Account Manager (CAM) role, managing execution, and providing technical oversight for both Development and Integration efforts. 

The IPT Lead will also lead the software IPT through program reviews and milestones. The candidate must have experience developing, testing, and integrating software for embedded devices and/or subsystems where hardware operation, time-critical functions, functional reliability, mission assurance, and safety are major concerns.

The successful candidate will work with Product Owners, Chief Engineers, Management, and other IPTs, using Lean and/or Agile practices, to ensure that embedded software is designed and developed to reliably operate toward the intended functions.

This position is within the Air & Space Defense Systems (ASDS) Engineering Execution organization, and is an on-site role located at the Tucson, AZ airport site.

What You Will Do

  • Lead a moderately sized team of software engineers and support staff through software development, integration, and qualification.

  • Control Account Manager (CAM) with EVMS responsibilities – providing Earned Value (EV) metrics and authoring Baseline Change Requests (BCRs), Variance narratives (VARs), and Latest Revised Estimates (LREs) / Estimates At Complete (EACs).

  • Maintain labor budgets and report deviations regularly to program leadership.

  • Prepare Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for new business capture.

  • Develop and execute software strategies to meet program cost and schedule.

  • Prepare and present review materials for milestone reviews, such as Incremental Design Review (IDR), Consent To Test (CTT), Test Readiness Review (TRR), Test Review Board (TRB), and Consent to Ship (CTS).

  • Collaborate across the program leadership team to ensure alignment on program priorities and execution strategy.

  • Work closely with Product Owners to ensure product backlog is aligned with program objectives and associated scope.

  • Manage project tracking systems to monitor execution, to plan, and hold team Product Owners and team members accountable for deliverables.

  • Innovate and implement process improvements to reduce cost and improve efficiency

  • Identify and analyze risks; develop / implement associated mitigation plans.

  • Drive collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and across IPTs to ensure technical alignment and risk mitigation.

  • Teach, coach, and mentor less experienced staff.

  • Recognize and celebrate team achievements and contributions.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of eight years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

  • Technical leadership experience on an embedded software development program utilizing Agile processes.

  • Experience in a team leadership role with knowledge of IPTL/CAM responsibilities and duties.

  • Experience developing complex systems involving the integration of hardware and software.

  • Experience with at least two of the following: Embedded C++ Software, Embedded Software Security, Software Architecture Design and Implementation, Software Integration and Qualification.

  • Experience using embedded Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) (e.g., Green Hills, Integrity, Wind River VxWorks, Linux, etc.).

  • Active and transferable Secret U.S. government-issued security clearance is required before start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Strong understanding of software development, integration, and verification processes.

  • Experience leading teams through every phase of the software development life cycle.

  • Working knowledge of internal EV tools and processes (status, BCRs, VARs, LREs); participation in preparation of BOEs.

  • Experience with budget, schedule, and risk management tools such as Integrated Master Plan (IMP), Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), and Risk and Opportunity Management.

  • Experience with budget, schedule, Estimate at Complete (EAC) process, and financial performance report generation.

  • EVMS certification, Program Management certification, or equivalent to Raytheon PM Level 6 certification.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and present plans and solutions to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
