Summary of the role

The Software Engineer II designs, develops, tests, and documents software for embedded systems and industrial controllers. This role supports industrial network communications, real-time operating systems, product performance, and system functionality. The position also contributes to the evaluation and implementation of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies that improve industrial automation, diagnostics, predictive maintenance, and operational efficiency.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications for embedded systems and industrial controllers.
  • Participate in product architecture, design reviews, and technical discussions throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Support hardware integration, product testing, verification, and validation activities.
  • Troubleshoot software and system issues during development, launch, installation, and field support.
  • Create and maintain software specifications, technical documentation, and build procedures.
  • Evaluate and implement software technologies, including AI/ML and data-driven solutions, to improve product functionality, diagnostics, and operational performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field required.
  • 6-10 years of embedded software development experience in an industrial or regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience owning complex software components or subsystems.

  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, including debugging, testing, and version control.
  • Experience working in collaborative development environments using Git, code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration practices.

Preferred

  • Experience with machine learning, data analytics, or artificial intelligence applications.
  • Experience implementing, integrating, or deploying AI/ML models or services within software applications.
  • Experience developing software using Python.
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, or ONNX.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, or similar technologies.
  • Experience applying AI/ML techniques to industrial automation, diagnostics, predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, or process optimization.
  • Ability to identify practical AI/ML solutions that improve product functionality, engineering productivity, system reliability, or customer outcomes.
