Job description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (SEL) seeks an innovative and detail-oriented individual for a software engineer position with an emphasis on Linux backend development.
We're a team of professional software engineers dedicated to making electric power safer, more reliable, and more economical through automation, control, and monitoring. Our group is looking for someone who is excited about backend development on Linux, using C, C++, C#, and Bash, and who is interested in solving real world problems in the growing market of electric power.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work from high-level requirements and customer commitments to deliver innovative solutions and delight our customers.
  • Work cooperatively with a team of like-minded individuals.
    Participate in reviewing specifications, designs, code, and tests in tight collaboration with other team members.
  • Understand hardware and software interactions; collaborate with firmware and power system engineers.
  • Participate in project planning and estimation.

Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented principles and concepts.
  • Knowledge and experience in object-oriented languages (e.g., C++, C#, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience in Linux.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-3 years software development experience.
  • Familiarity with Git, CMake, and Docker.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Jenkins.

Firmware Engineer - $97,700 - $144,400
We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the pay range may differ if filled at a different level. Our pay ranges are determined by job and responsibility. We base our starting pay offer and title on job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
