Job Purpose

The Chief Engineer is the technical engineering leader responsible for delivering innovative, customer-focused products that meet performance, quality, cost, and timing objectives. This role supports cross-functional engineering teams to design, validate, and integrate complete system solutions, ensuring functionality, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability. This role drives technology roadmaps, aligns product requirements across subsystems, and manages technical risks and trade-offs, to optimize outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive alignment and execution across cross-functional design, development, and validation teams to deliver integrated technical solutions that meet customer requirements and current product program objectives. Serve as a point of accountability for product-level outcomes, with end-to-end ownership of system functionality, performance, reliability, durability, manufacturability, and serviceability. Define necessary changes to system-level targets, architectures, and key trade-offs to optimize customer value while meeting quality, cost, and timing commitments
  • Responsible for creation of technology solution roadmaps to support future product strategy. Partners with product line and precision integration leaders to create, communicate and translate these technology solution roadmaps and execution to product line owners.
  • Ensure creation and execution of resource and competence development plans to ensure capability to deliver future roadmaps. Drive the engineering resource and capability strategy to deliver current and future product roadmaps.
  • Responsible for adherence to the defined design interfaces and delivery across all engineering teams (electronics, software, controls) to ensure successful machine function, reusability and exceptional customer experience.
  • Identify design steps and risks, and proactively drive actions to mitigate risk from program(s) and leverages knowledge of engineering tools, processes, and advanced problem-solving techniques to efficiently deliver designs.
  • Drive technical decisions related to product and technology when tradeoffs are required, through active collaboration with relevant teams and experts. Lead and own critical product and technology decisions, defining and balancing trade-offs, while aligning cross-functional stakeholders to enable effective execution.
  • Ensure clear product requirements exist, are understood and are cascaded to relevant engineering teams to deliver customer value and program objectives.
  • Own engineering program execution, ensuring alignment to key milestones, performance metrics (KPIs), deliverables, and driving accountability across teams to meet commitments for quality, cost, and timing.
  • Drive continuous process improvements to accelerate team efficiency and capacity, including the adoption of digital and AI-enabled capabilities to improve engineering effectiveness and capacity
  • Ensure the transfer of product knowledge and technical documentation across the product lifecycle, ensuring downstream stakeholders (e.g., manufacturing, suppliers, quality, service and platforms) are fully enabled to support production and deployment.
Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; electrical, electronics or software engineering preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive engineering experience, including leadership roles in complex product development
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional, system-level product development programs from concept through production
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver products meeting performance, quality, cost, and timing objectives
  • Strong understanding of multi-disciplinary engineering systems
  • Requires an understanding of modern software development practices in resource constrained embedded
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using or creating open-source software
  • Must be able to consume perspectives and requirements from a wide variety of stakeholders and drive to common solution
  • Strong focus on driving scalable software and hardware modularity.
  • Experience in long lifecycle management program
  • Development experience in off-highway segment
Pay Transparency

The annual salary for this role is USD $185,625.00 - $247,500.00 plus any applicable bonus (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)

For roles open across multiple locations, the salary range indicated refers to the primary location. If a different location is considered, the applicable salary range will be communicated to candidates prior to the first interview.
