Job Description:

QNX enhances the human experience and amplifies technology-driven industries, providing a trusted foundation for software-defined businesses to thrive. The business leads the way in delivering safe and secure operating systems, hypervisors, middleware, solutions, and development tools, along with support and services delivered by trusted embedded software experts. With a focus on reducing hardware dependency and increasing efficiency, QNX empowers organizations to unlock new possibilities in areas like high-performance computing at the edge, standards-based virtualization technologies, and cloud enablement. QNX technology has been deployed in the world's most critical embedded systems, including more than 275 million vehicles on the road today. QNX software is trusted across industries including automotive, medical devices, industrial controls, robotics, commercial vehicles, rail, and aerospace and defense.

If you're passionate about open ecosystems, upstream collaboration, and bringing modern opensource technologies into places they've never been before, this role gives you a rare opportunity: shaping how open-source runs on one of the world's most trusted realtime operating systems. This is a 50/50 hybrid role: half deep technical contribution and half leadership.

At QNX, open source isn't an afterthought, it's becoming a core pillar of our platform strategy. You'll help define how open source evolves inside a safetycritical, highreliability environment used in automotive, robotics, medical devices, and beyond.

Responsibilities include:

  • Porting & optimizing opensource projects for the QNX RTOS, ensuring performance, reliability, and realtime behavior.
  • Designing integration layers, build systems, and CI/CD workflows for opensource components.
  • Integrating OSS with QNX subsystems such as graphics, networking, USB, audio, and sensors.
  • Upstreaming QNXrelevant changes and collaborate directly with opensource communities.
  • Leading & mentoring a team of talented opensource engineers, providing technical direction and fostering growth.
  • Driving project roadmaps, define best practices, and champion opensource adoption within QNX.
  • Documenting processes & advocating for opensource excellence across the company.

You will need:

  • Significant progressive embedded software experience, including in technical leadership/mentorship.
  • Strong skills in C/C++ for embedded systems development & handson RTOS development (QNX, Linux, or similar).
  • Deep understanding of embedded systems, hardware architectures, and crosscompilation tool chains.
  • Experience in device driver development.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills. You will have the proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers, fostering growth and accountability.
  • Curiosity, enthusiasm, and interest in new technologies.

It would be great if you have:

  • Linux or Android internals experience.
  • Proficiency with Git, GDB, GCC, Make/CMake.
  • Proven contributions to large opensource projects.
  • Familiarity with opensource licensing models & best practices relating to community engagement.
  • Strong GCC/GDB knowledge.
  • Experience with Agentic AI.

Why join QNX as a Technical Development Manager:

  • You get to upstream, not just consume.
  • You will influence how open source evolves inside a realtime, safetycritical environment.
  • You will work with a team that values transparency, collaboration, and community.
  • You will shape the developer experience for thousands of engineers building on QNX.
  • You will lead a group that is expanding and has strong executive support.

If you are ready to use your expertise to drive real innovation, we would love to hear from you!
