You'll be joining Wabtec Bus Solutions, a team driving innovation in Transit Bus & Rail systems, including passenger door systems, wheelchair lifts & ramps, e-Bus charging systems, driver's protective barriers, and more. We blend technical expertise with deep product knowledge to deliver high-impact solutions for our customers and communities.

How will you make a difference?

As an engineer within Wabtec Bus Solutions, you will support the design and development focused on a mix of major initiatives in embedded software development for different products, controls, & sensors.ย  Reporting to the Engineering Manager or Supervisor, and sometimes working under guidance of senior engineers, you will design and develop embedded software-based products, assist in product development, and help ensure compliance with engineering standards. This role is ideal for engineers looking to deepen their technical skills and operate within a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer or Software Engineering (ABET accredited)
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Basic project management skills (scopes, plans, & costs)
  • Experience supporting development of embedded software based systems in transportation
  • Familiarity of embedded software design of systems including engineering & manufacturing principles, practices, and procedures
  • Basic problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity of NPD Stage Gate, DFMEA, Problem Solving Techniques, DFM/DFA, & Engineering Analysis
  • Knowledge in embedded architecture/systems, safety standards, performance optimization, & system integration
  • Proficiency in Linux, C/C++, RTOS, and embedded debugging tools
  • Familiarity with C#, python, JavaScript, HTML, & react
  • Familiarity with SW development process including agile, version control, and CI/CD.
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently on defined tasks and collaborate effectively

What will your typical day look like?

  • Assist in developing embedded software systems, including controllers and sensors, per customer and technical requirements
  • Contribute to innovation & patents
  • Support senior engineers in designs, DFMEAs, and validation testing
  • Participate in prototype builds and test planning
  • Perform hands-on testing and troubleshooting in lab or production environments
  • Analyze test results and recommend design improvements
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain for DFM/DFA alignment
  • Contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality or field issues
  • Support Sales and Field Service teams in resolving technical problems
  • Maintain clear documentation and communication across teams
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and team-based problem-solving

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Primarily office-based work and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to build, test, & inspect electro-mechanical systems and test systems in an office, lab, manufacturing environment, and/or on transit buses
  • Occasional travel (10%) to customers and manufacturing sites
  • You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

The salary rate for this role is currently $71500-98100 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
