Job description

The Sr. Electrical Engineer is a senior member of the Product Development Engineering organization and is responsible for leading digital and analog circuit design for Radiation Therapy and Nuclear Medicine medical device products, with primary emphasis on digital design including microcontroller, FPGA, and embedded digital systems. This role provides technical leadership and design solutions in analysis, DFx, documentation, prototyping, verification, and new product introduction. Experience with analog low noise and low leakage circuit design is a plus.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • System Design: Lead the development of digital architecture and system concepts, including electrical, software, and interface product requirements. Define Input and Output requirements to establish key functional design specifications and features
  • Digital Circuit Design: Own microcontroller, FPGA, and embedded firmware interface design in hardware, working with FW, SW, and ME groups to ensure a cohesive product design that is EMC compliant and conforms to required safety regulations
  • Analog/Mixed-Signal Circuit Design: Support analog and mixed-signal circuit design where applicable, including low noise and low leakage analog design for detector and signal conditioning circuits
  • Documentation: Following the Product Life Cycle process, own the creation of design documentation (schematics, PCB layout, parts lists, assembly drawings, etc.) including theory of operation, debug procedures, and work with test engineering to develop test requirements and production test procedures
  • Design Reviews: Lead schematic, PCB, firmware, and system reviews including DFx and FMEA; drive design quality and ensure cross-functional alignment
  • Technical Mentorship and Technician Training: Mentor junior engineers and conduct product training for production, support operations, sales, and test technicians
  • Regulatory: Interface with testing laboratories and government agencies to facilitate regulatory testing to assure that products meet necessary domestic and international regulatory requirements
  • Risk Assessment and DFx: Lead Risk Assessment and DFx activities (DFM, FMEA, Tolerance analysis, etc.) and drive design robustness throughout the product development lifecycle

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline
  • Demonstrated cross-functional leadership experience working with Mechanical, SW, Product Support, and Manufacturing teams to optimize designs and resolve product issues
  • At least 8–10 years in electrical design and analysis, with experience in a Phase Gated Product Life Cycle process
  • Exceptional technical proficiency in digital design including microcontroller, FPGA, and embedded digital systems
  • Strong experience with medical device product development and regulatory standards (e.g., IEC 60601, FDA design controls)
  • Proficient in DFM, DFT, FMEA, and Failure Analysis principles
  • Strong experience as a senior individual contributor and technical mentor in design engineering; fully self-directed in the completion of complex engineering tasks
  • Experience with analog low noise and low leakage circuit design is preferred but not required
